I have to go into hospital for the afternoon on Friday to have an endoscopy done, (small camera passed down my throat into the stomach)
I am being given the choice to have a local throat spray anaesthetic or sedation. I am thinking more on the lines of the throat spray.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had one and what choice of anaesthetic you chose to have and was it all ok?
I am feeling a little apprehensive.
They are doing it because my GP seems to think either my liver or my pancreas isn't working properly.
Thank you

My friend just had this done 2 weeks ago nd she had the spray...they gave her a sedative..I believe valium or ativan to calm her and she said it was fine...no adverse effects...quick and painless.....

I have had Endoscopy about 5 yrs ago now had sedation and was not groggy at all when I left hosp. I don't think I would do well with the spray.
Got to have another one as well as Colonoscopy once I am well enough from the hip replacement

Thought for the Day
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream;
Not only plan, but also believe.
I had it done, had just the spray and was ok other than a ore throat.
They said that there was something that wasn't quite right and took 3 lots of biopsy's. I am just waiting for an appointment date for the consultant now at the hospital to see the results.
I am glad it is over now.
Thanks again

Madmum I just had one done on Monday...i had the spray and had a bit of a panic attack just because I am a mouth breather so found it hard not to be able to feel my throat....did okay in the end though.....they also took some biopsies so i go back in 3 weeks to get the results....after mine they sedated me because I also had to have a colonoscopy....I was pretty sick later in the day due to the sedative...made me very nauseous Also my gag reflex did not come back for almost 7 hours so no food or drink till then....freezing seems to work really well in me....they probably don't need as much as they use....
Hope you get some good news when you get your results
Hugs debbie
