Train, I have had asthma since 1983..and thank goodness they have such better medicines now.
Usually when you go through allergy testing, they will tell you what you need to stay away from...cats, dogs, weeds, grass, trees, dust, dust mites, smoke, perfume, etc.
To keep my asthma under control, I take Flovent 2 times a day. This medicine has made a huge change in my life. Now when I run into things that would set me off..it doesn't..for example dusty books. I love books so I am always looking at old books.
Skin allergies seem to go hand and hand with asthma too.
Avoidance is the biggest thing you can do for allergies and asthma.
For example, I would never dream of going to a smoky nightclub, and thank goodness, there are many restrictions for smokers now.
Thanks for responding.
I am glad your asthma is under control.
My breathing problems occur when I get the hives...from heat, cold, water, stress and exercise, but not everytime. I get the hives 2 or 3 times a day usually with intense itching.
This is, apparantly, much more common in kids (the urticaria, not the asthma) than in adults.
I was wondering about that more than the asthma..........
Any parents here have kids with the hives by physical choilngeric urticaria?
It is a defieciency in the immune system.
Train,
I too hope you can find a soultion to your dilema. My dh has had allergies and asthma since he was a little kid.Good thing I haven;t had to worry about him with hives too.
Hugs,
Mish
I have allergies to certain plants, there are a couple in our yard that if I touch the living leaves I come out in a rash, but if the leaves are dead they don't bother me ... go figure.
I get eczema and I do have sensitive skin, have to watch soaps I use also. I don't have breathing problems, though ds1 has couch grass, cat dander and dust mite allergies and ds2 has cold weather related asthma.
Eczema, asthma and reflux are all related, both boys had reflux as babies and my mum says that my bad wind problems as a baby may not have been that but reflux and they just didn't' know it.
I hope you find the answers Train let us know how you go.
Sorry to deviate slightly ....
Karen what kind of asthma does Samantha have? Cameron has no allergies his asthma is due to the cool air and weather.
That is what affects his air ways and breathing
Karen,
How is Samantha doing?
Bilby, How about your son? How's he doing, the one with asthma?
Mish, is your hubby's asthma real bad?
Janet, the showering you desribed with the little kids, that happens to me everytime. Water from a shower or swimming gives me hives everytime. the weird thing is the doctor sys this usually starts in children not in 47 year old women!!!!!! LOL!!
I am doing a bit better, allergy meds have lessened but not taken away the hives. I've only had to use the inhaler once.
It is more common in children and I am a baffling case to my doctor! She doesn't have any other patients with colingeric urticaria! Kids, yes, nut no adults!
The doctor says that most children outgrow it. She is baffled that I got it in the first place, let alone not outgrowing it in a year.
The asthma has been very, very, mild its the immune deficiency that is awful. I do not make enough histamine.
In the past year she has tried a lot of allergy meds trying to level the histamine. None of them worked. I have kinds gotten used to the hives. I do get tired of telling people I am not contagious.
They are not all the time but occur average twice a day and, thank goodness, only last about ten minutes.
It most always starts in my ears! If my ears are feeling hot I know the hives are coming.
Hot, cold, water, stress, sweat..........
