Hello everyone! Does anyone out there suffer from tension headaches and/or migraine? I am interested in finding a non-drug headache remedy. I currently use acetominophen with codeine and I'm thinking perhaps I should try not using it so much anymore. Do you have anything that works for you like accupuncture, certain foods, standing on your head? I'm interested in anything other than drugs or herbs. Thanks!
I have suffered with migraines for as long as I can remember!
Unfortunately, I canot take the "specialty" migraine meds like Imitrex due to a heart problem.
Until about 3 weeks ago, all I could take for the pain was Ultram (actually, I used the generic, Tramadol) every 4-6 hours. SInce it would make me extremely sleepy, I would try to take it only at night so I could sleep and then suffer immensely during the day.
3 weeks ago, when I was at the doctor's office for another reason, I casually mentioned to my doctor that I'd had a migraine for right at a month and that I was getting them much more frequently.
She started me on Inderal......which is commonly known as a blood pressure medication. But they found that it helped relieve and, better yet, helps prevent migraines!!!
After taking it for 4 nights, I woke up migraine free!! Since then, the only head pain I have had is sinus pressure from a sinus infection I am currently fighting.
I know that you did not want more drugs but wanted to mention it since it is more of a preventative for me now and has given me such great results!
I have a cousin that gets migraines when she eats anything with artificial dyes. Have you tried cutting out foods with artificial dyes?
Do you suffer with allergies? My Mom gets a migraine of she gets around anything she is severely allergic to.
I've not yet been able to pin point a trigger for myself other than stress.
Can you tell that migraines run in my Mom's side of the family?
Hello, I have suffered from Migraines since i was six. They put me out and then days after im so scared i'll get another. I take several prevenitives but what i think i have found is a herb called Fever Few i get it at GNC its 7.99 for 100. I read about it on the internet and it works!! I have tried every available drug like imitrex and nothing works for me. Maybe this will help you. My Dr. thinks its working too. hugs kim

I know a couple of years ago here at FC, someone told me I should try Fever Few after I mentioned that I had not posted for a few days due to a severe migraine.
I had asked my doctor about that but she did not want me to use it due to my heart & thyroid problems.
I also used inderal for years, about 18. I finally was weaned off of them. Then this past May, I got a migraine for a month, ending up in the hospital for 4 days because they could not get it under control. I ended up back on a low dosage of inderal 2x's a day and nortrpytoline (sp.?) at night to get things back into sync. It helped immensely. They stopped the nort. after 3 months to see how things would go. I am back on it again as of this week due to getting headaches again. It is an anti-depressent, but it works well for preventing inset of headaches that are chronic.
I am careful when there are big weather changes, this seems to be a big factor, as well as cigarette smoke, not enough sleep and too much caffiene without eating, too long between meals. I also take ultram, but only at night and not every day. I also limit how many and how often I take either ibuprofen or tylenol.
As far as taking the ASA/Cod 3, I would be careful of backlash headaches from taking everyday. All can cause a rebound headache.
Good luck, I would like to not ever have a headache ever again! I am also open to hear what people have done to prevent them.
Have a good day
As codiene means you shouldn't be driving how do you function?
See you dentist about how good your bite is? Many people have found relief with a bite guard (nights) to even out tension from one side to the other. Mine is referring me to a TMJ specialist. Tension mandible jaw -something like that.
He was reluctant as I don't have the headaches but I can feel my bite isoff from a crown that is a bit too high and I am compensating before I get the headaches.
I am sure that you are watching your diet for triggers like caffiene and MSG and all that already.
Esgic Plus works better than tylenol and codeine. Codeine will sometimes make you sick at your stomach. If the headaches are that bad then a chiropractor will help a lot. Especially with migraines.
now this may not work for everyone,, its a home remedy i got from a friend that suffers bad from migraines,,, and i do to if you can tell when a migraine is coming on,, myself my right eye starts to blur then i know in couple hours a migraine appears,, but if you take a coke that is flat,, like its set out and lost its carbination, drink a can or glass of coke and it will ease it or take it away, i have told other friends and some it helped and some it didn't but worth a try,, myself i can not take all the doctors medicine with my stomach, and i hate the side effects of the pills,, ,,it works for me,, i hope it can you,, i keep a coke in my refregirator at all times,, its best to get the coke that has a twist on cap that way it does stay fresher,, than leaving a open can in the frigerator,,good luck all
god bless

There are many preventitive treatments for migraines. Taking tylenol with codeine should be a last resort .. Codeine is addictive, and tylenol can cause the rebound headaches already mentioned.
Herbs are simply organic pre-cursors of pharmacologic drugs. It's not like they don't have the same side effects, it's just that they are not regulated in their manufacture. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshel...25,780,00.html
is a preventitive treatment.. not something to be used once a headache has begun. You also should not take NSAIDS or asprin if you use Feverfew.
