Question Trick-or-Treating...

Do you think that an age limit should or should not be put on trick-or-treating? If so, what age do you think it should be...

Moved this to the Halloween forum!

My older son went trick-or-treating last year at age 16. He very well may go again this year. I think that if high-school kids are willing to put together a costume and go out, then that's great. There's much worse that they COULD be doing. He goes with a group of friends; they are all good (if goofy) kids and they have a lot of fun. The only people who told them that they're "too old" were our one set of crabby neighbors. Most people didn't seem to care.

My daughter is 13 and she and her best friend are planning to trick-or-treat also. Her friend's dad brings her here and then he walks around the neighborhood with my DH and the kids. It's always a fun time.

My youngest is 7 so he's got a while to go.

The only time I hate when big kids come around is if they don't have costumes on.

I agree with Barb that big kids should have a costume on. The thing to think about around here is that if you refuse to give candy to the kids who don't wear costumes, then you risk the chance that they will do damage to your house, car...etc because of it.

My son is going to be 12 this year and he (not me) is questioning whether or not he want to go trick or treating. I've told him that I think that he has at least on more year to do it. He's trying to think of a cool costume in case he sees his friends or worse yet, some cute girls. ROFL!!!

I'm sure that he will dress up once he realizes that his sister is going to get candy and he won't.

Tami, he might have to learn the hard way this year.

I had a strategy one year for dealing with the teens who would come around with NO costume. (That happened in a town where we used to live. It does not happen here. Most teens here are too busy being jocks to want to trick-or-treat but that's another story).

Teenagers LOVE Jolly Rancher candy. They can sneak it in class. I'm a teacher so I know this! (I could always smell when someone had one, LOL) Jolly Rancher used to make cinnamon-flavored ones called "Fire Stix." They are red, so they look just like the cherry or strawberry. So I had 2 bowls of candy. 1 bowl of regular stuff and 1 bowl of Jolly Rancher Fire Stix. Kids without costumes got those. They were always thrilled that I gave them the Jolly Ranchers, and I would just think of my revenge the next morning when they sneaked one in the middle of math class and got a surprise--this is not strawberry! It was not revenge that would hurt anyone, just my little Halloween trick

My dd and her friends ( guys and girls) would trick or treat every year right till their last year in high school. They ended the night with a Hallowen party at our house. These teens had a blast every year......My ds stopped trick or treat around the 7th or 8th grade.....I don't think an age limit should be put on fun......
