I rub almond oil in to my nails nightly when I don't wear nail polish and I don't wear nail polish constantly. Once a week I soak my nails in a water/gelatin mix. My nails rarely split/ break and they are fairly long. Only file your nails never use clippers or anything to cut them.
As for nail polishes.... Witchcraft is far the best I have ever used it is a bit more expensive but not bad about $7.00 a bottle but you can find them on sale for $2.50 once a season. The next best one I find is Sally Hansen. I'm talking about smoothness on putting on, chip resistance & length of time till a recoat.
If you use nail polish remover, use one with acetone, it is actually less drying and easier on your nails then the non-acetone type. If you use tips/ plastic/gel/whatever nails, no acetone it will melt them.
As for Vitamins any of the B's/ antioxidants help your nails and hair out alot
I find these things help my nail out, hopefully it can help you out too

long nails

thanks otheila, i have never heard of witchcraft. i dont wear fake nails anymore , i did for a while but they left my nails in bad shape, so i quit wearing them. I did use tree tea oil but it made my nails so dry. iread on another website(forgotten which one) this girl said she was using mop and glo on her floors, she said it made her nails hard, havent tried that one. Thanks for any ideas.
We have walmart and target, K-mart department stores here. is there a website for witchcraft?

I can't find a site for Witchcraft nail products, their nail hardener is the best, but I get mine at the local drug store, Shoopers.
Wal-Mart here carries it once in awhile. The Bay carries it here too I belive.
They have the whole line of nail care products, I just use their hardner, clear coat and the colors the rest of the stuff I can get cheeper ( almond oil a little bottle from them is like $12.00 when I can get a bigger bottle from Shoppers for $3.00).
I've tried the Mop & Glo and didn't find any big difference in my nails although I didn't try it for a long time maybe about a week or so.
If you find your nails chip or peel easy try drinking more water.
You can also use your hair conditioner as a nail moisturizer/rub that does a nice job too.

Nail polishes

Healthy nails start with a healthy diet. Your hair and nails can be healthier if you eat a well balanced diet. Vitamins are good and any with Vit E is good for nails. I am a nail tech and I have had everything from artificial nails to natural and I've found that no polish is the best for your nails. A lot of the polishes and strengtheners on the market have formaldahyde in them which is very bad for you and your nails. So look at labels! At my salon we sell a nail strengthener that doesn't have formaldahyde in called "NailTek". That has worked wonders for our clients and I would recommend asking for it wherever you go to the salon. And also, monthly manicures help your nails to stay healthy also. It's good to have a little pampering anyway. So treat yourself.

I found eating at least one orange a day made a huge difference in my nails.

I use about 1 tlbs gelatin to about 1/4 cup warm water. Let them soak about 5-10 minutes, buff dry then rub in sweet almond oil until glossy. I do the soaking thing once a week when I'm watching ER since I don't have to pay too much attention to what I'm doing and can watch the show

Hi, I have used Sally Hansons BeLong for more years than I care to remember. You have to put it on horizontally and vertically they say one "set" of coats will do, but I use at least 3. My nails have always been 1/2 to 3/4 inch long "dragon nails" but I love them that way as they make my hands look longer and more feminine.
