Beauty treatments

Does anyone have any favorite beauty treatments they recommend? Not that I could afford them as I am still looking for a job but just in general.

OK, I admit...you all are going to laugh... I have NEVER had a manicure, pedicure, massage or anything of this nature!!!
Am I missing out?
I don't even pluck my eyebrows...ouch!!!
HELP me get into a good beauty routine for 2003!!!
peace, train

Trainlady don't feel bad--I've never done those things either. I've always had a problem with feeling guilty and selfish even thinking about it. I do want to start getting manicures though. My nails and cuticles are in awful shape and I HATE fake nails. I've tried them and hated them. Oldest dd likes to have them done so does m-i-l but they're not for me.

Now as for a routine beauty treatment I am a fanatic about washing my face with Dove then using a GOOD moisturizer. I switch between Beyond Belief Vit. C moisturizer from Sally Beauty Supply and Carrot Nutritive Day Creme from Burts Bees, both very economical, especially when I can get the Carrot form the outlet tab on-line. I also use a night moisturizer. Good genes inherited from my dad has a lot to do with being wrinkle free less than 3 months from my 49th birthday but I believe all the moisturizing helps a great deal. LOVE moisturizers!

Trainlady, I am a beautician, but I havent practiced in alot of years, but if you were here I would treat you to a manicure and pedicure.

I dont do my eyebrows either.

I keep my nails in good shape but I always have them natural, no colored polish, I have just gotten used to them that way I guess.

The best treatment to me is a long bath with my fav. soap and salts, and etc. and a few candles, and everyone to leave me alone while I am in there.

Trainlady, I have only had a corporate massage...you sit in a special chair and they work on your back, shoulders, neck, arms, hands.Oh the hand massage was great...never had one before. I loved the massage but I don't think I could get used to the naked thing. lol

I do my own nails..and no fake nails...I have seen people who have had a fungus, and infections when they don't keep them up...not for me. I work with my hands, so I basically have short nails.

I get my hair highlighted too...I like to have hair two colors and gray isn't one of them.lol

I have decided to treat myself to some beauty treatments every few months. I really cannot afford to start doing this until I have a job...but I have saved up enough for this first time!!!
I have my first appointment next week to get some highlights in my hair!! I have never had this done before and hope it will be worth the money! There is a little day spa close to where I live and if I like how they do my hair I will go again...I think I would like to have a facial, maybe!

Nagymom, I use Dove soap on my face, too. I use Ponds for moisturizer. One time I bought some carrot lotion from the "Body Shop" at the mall and I remember that lotion making my face feel so soft.

Graceygrammy... I'll be stopping at your house next time I am in Missouri for my beauty treatments!!!!

peace,train

HA! I have my eyebrows waxed but can NOT pluck myself. I'm holllering and crying after the second hair. I can have them plucked, just can't do them myself. Funny story, I was young, in a hurry and decided to use my electric shaver to clean my eyebrows. It didn't work but it sure did a fantastic job of chaving the eyelashes off of one eye!

Trainlady--one way to save money--see if you have a beauty school in your area. The students who work on you have been in school for a while (long enough to advance to this) and work under supervision. They DO take a little longer than a normal salon but it's worth the money saved. It was $45 minimum at a salon to have a hair coloring done and I got it done at my local beauty school for $15 and NO tips! This school didn't allow tipping.

On massages--there is absolutely nothing in this world in my opinion that feels better than a foot massage--especially when it's my dh doing the massaging.

Have fun!

My mother used to use a razor to do her eyebrows.. well I guess when my brother was around 3 or 4, he saw her do this. One day my mother woke up to find my brother looking strange. Well after she went into the bathroom, she figured it out, he shaved off his eyebrows. LOL

Stupid kid he was and still is at 30 years old
