Vicki--stocking up is a great idea, even if it's just a little. When we had our apartment, I had to get creative with storage lol!! Take a good look at all those "extra" spaces you have--you know, "dust bunny areas". Under the bed, under the couch, any area you can stick a shelf...canned goods don't care that they're not in a "pantry". For the longest time, my living room end table was actually a wooden crate filled with toilet paper--once the cloth was over it no one could tell! You don't need a lot of space going out if you can build up. How about making a narrow set of shelves in the garage--narrow enough for cans but going from floor to ceiling? Stuff like that. Can't hurt to try it.

MrsManiac -

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to try the end tables and bed thing. But as for the garage......well the garage is soooooo small and our van is sooooooo big that my dh and I (and even my 13 yo ds) have a hard time walking aound the van to get into our seats!

Thanks again. Vicki

What a great thread. I am just getting to the point that I am becoming really frugal. The goal is for dh to only have to work 1 job instead of the 3 that he was working. I have always stocked up on meats, but never canned stuff. If it didn't fit in my cabinets I didn't get it. But I am thinking of turning one of my hall cosets into a pantry. We will see.

Hi lufmyff

I know what you mean squeezing pennies. things are tight right now. I'm going have to go to what on stockup mode. Did get a good buy on tyson breaded chiken breast filets. A 20 lb box for $11.00 Dollars. Comes to 55 cents a pond. May never get that deal again. I plan to vaccum pack it tommarrow.

What a GREAT deal on chicken. I am so jealous. I love chicken. I am eating out of my freezer right now. I have no $$ to go get much for the next week. Luckily we have enough food in our freezer to lasts us a long time. I will need to restock when we have the money. We get some extra around the holidays so I will be using all the extra pay to stock up.

Tonight out of the freezer we hab hambergers. Some I had frozen after a cook out. Made a quick easy meal. I served a baked potatoe with it.

Hi guys, I had received this thread in the past and noticed some new activity. A lot of people are over on the what did you do frugal today. A lot is discussed including savings at the grocery. Come on over and join that one if you would like.

Yes, I can get really obsessive about what gets purchased, what does not, what coupons can can not be used, whether it is generic or not, and whether buying in bulk is better than just that item at the local place. I allocate a certain amount every 2 weeks and when we go over that set amount, I deduct it from other allocated funds (movie night / pizza delivery / etc).
