Thanks for the quick replies! Anna garlic bread and cheese on George.......sounds like something we would love ..... never even thought about trying that. Thanks.
And Roberta, I used to make that list every few weeks of everything I could make for a meal with what was in the house already. I haven't thought of that in a long time. Thank you.

My dh and I work 4 10-11 hr days per week. While I enjoy having Fridays off and saving the gas $$$ by not driving the 75 miles round trip on the 5th day, I feel like we are spending more $$ by eating out 'cause I am too tired and hungry to wait til we get home! Planning has to be the answer I think. We are both diabetic also and our blood sugars get wacky on us. So I have to plan for that also.

Thanks for the help.

Debjo, check out our What's For Dinner section. A lot of meals posted there are pretty quick. Also in the Recipes section, anything with boneless chicken or pork will cook fast.

I'd recommend that you look for cookbooks in your library by Rachael Ray. All her recipes are 30 minutes and under. Another good title is "Desperation Dinners." I can't remember the author but there were some good quick ideas in there.

Scrambled eggs with additions is fast. Toast.

Grilled cheese with tomato soup is fast.

Crockpots like Barbszy said is minimal time prep and smells so good and holds over so well.

You can make a shoppinglist out of the weekly ads and whatever else you need to add in, and it will also match those sales to coupons. I think I even saw something so you can send your shopping list to your phone, that would help those of you with the horror stories after leaving your list at home. lol

Hi! My food budget our whole budget as gone hay wire but I'm ajusting.. Back planning ever meal. I'm also tring to plan healty meals. I found quick meals come thru meal planning and prep work. I try to do it the night before or that morning . Crock pot is my friend on busy days.

#1 stable in our house is dry bean of all sorts. It a good keeper. Good source of protien and fiber. Just soak over night. Put in crock that morning. Dinner nearly done when you get home from work.

Budget?! What budget?! With a 16% VAT (Value Added Tax) off post and higher than in the US prices (because almost everything is Exported here) on post plus the 6% SIR charge (don't exactly know what that is). My "budget" has flown the coop. I now am spending over 200/every two weeks when I used to be only 125-150/every two weeks. And I thought I had been spending too much then!

Happy face I have a family of 8 and can feed us for one week on $130-$150.

That includes dh and I along with a 13 yo dd, 11 yo ds, 9 yo dd, 7 yo ds, 5 yo dd & 3 yo dd. That is strictly food. It also includes things like lean meats, light whole grain breads and RF/FF items.

I am needing to cut back for a couple of months to get a bill paid off. I can see from this thread and a couple of others that I have read that I am doing okay to feed my crew on that. I know I can cut back, but didn't have to do so until now. I am going to try to the grocery shopping on $100 a week for the next 2 months. I know I can do it, but have gotten lax since I didn't need to do so. I was at a comfort zone (which there is nothing wrong with).

I can cook from scratch (usually do) and have it taste good too. LOL! That will be a plus. I tell dh that feeding a family like our locusts can be costly if I let it. So I will use the ideas I glean from here to keep me going ... It seems I am doing just fine, but gotta get a little more blood out of that turnip.

Oh yeah, I live in the midwest with some low cost of living. That helps us get more bang for the buck.

WOW, ranae you are an inspiration to me if you can get your grocery bill down to $100 a week for 8.
