I really lucked out as we didnot buy dog food this month. We have also been eating out of the freezer and pantry a lot. I am trying to use up all the old stuff so the real test will be in a month or 2 and I am replenishing. I liked haveing the Challenge as it kept me really paying attention to what I spend. So I hope we do it again in July

My kids only eat lunch-meat sandwiches at school, it seems! LOL! For lunch in the summer they eat muffin pizza, frozen (Ellio's) pizza, boxed mac & cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, ramen noodles, bagel & cream cheese or tuna sandwiches. They also know that they have their choice of whatever leftovers are in the fridge. I have offered each week to get them turkey or something for sandwiches and they always say "no, thanks."
We generally eat leftovers at home for lunch as well and the kids will get the occational treat of "spagettios" bought on sale with coupons of course!
July I should spend less as the cupboards are full and the freeze is stocked up.
I will be donating 8 cans of the Van de Camps baked beans that I was able to get for $.13 each after sale & coupons. And the free French's mustard as we have 2 in the cupboard all ready.
Will there be a new thread for July?
I lost count in June, but I will try again for July!
It was helpful being constantly aware of spending, so I guess it helped a bit. We have eaten well thsi week as we have used up fruit and veggoie that was getting towards the end of it's life. I tried to use it before I had to throw it out. This means I do have at least one meal of soup in the freezer, although we did have t/a for tea Friday.

Like Meg..I hope this thread continues in July..even if you can't stick to your goal for one reason or another ..it makes you aware of every penny you do spend..in some cases we may not be putting enough into the fund or maybe too much..and on here you see it clearly and can adjust in the next month.. so..thanks for the thread and making us aware....

I've made a major transition in my life recently, so I really didn't have a handle on what I'd be spending as I went from buying for just me to buying for me and DH and our college-age DS. I would just go to the store every couple of days and buy what I "thought" we needed.
This thread reminded me to keep track of what I was spending, and I was surprised at how much I spent. I'll be trying again in July and see how that goes.
Barb, that's really interesting about your kids' lunches. I can see they'd probably enjoy a change from cold sandwiches, and when they're home for the summer, they have lots of yummy options.
