Barbszy, that is a great solution for your ds lunch. He gets a fresh lunch but can still go to all his activities. I always have to pack extra for ds1 so he has something to eat after track practice so his lunch box is usually stuffed full.

leasmom, I just ordered 4 of the wrap-n-mats to use for my dh and ds2 next year. Thanks for posting about them. I told ds2 about it and told him NOT to throw it away once he opened his sandwich.

I think my goal for next year will be to try to do a "waste free" lunch. I do use plastic spoons but my dks bring them home and we re-use them until they break. I think, though, when I run out of them, I can switch to regular silverware. I recently switched to using cloth napkins at dinner time. My dks are having a bit of a hard time adjusting to this because the napkins look "nice" or "pretty" so they feel bad wiping their mouths on them. I told them to think of them like restaurant napkins where they don't worry about it at all. One change at a time I guess.

I switched to dollar-store spoons & forks to put in my kids' lunches. But tell your kids to be careful how they pack them. DD put her spoon in an outer pocket on her lunchbox and it fell out on the front lawn after school. Big DS mowed the lawn & didn't see the spoon! The thing looked like a golf club once the mower was done with it. Fortunately no one got hurt and nothing but the spoon was damaged!

Yeah, my daughter loves them. She has thrown away a few-ugh-that's why I had to reorder them but they are worth it in the end. We've wrapped everything in there...next time I'm gonna get a few of the extra large ones too.

Barbszy, I have some very cheap metal spoons and forks too which is probably what I will use next year. I bought a package of plastic spoons and they have lasted me 2 years already (supplemented with spoons saved from fast food restaurants when we get them) Glad no one got hurt when the lawnmower hit one!
