Lightbulb Earth Hour

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else out there is celebrating "Earth Hour"?

Every month on the 29th between 8-9 pm EST they are asking everyone to turn off all their lights.
My kids and I are doing this....
It not only saves energy but it gives me quality time with the kids.

This thread has been moved to the Going Green forum.

Where did you hear about this idea?

That would teach responsibility too if you turn off the lights and tell them why. I got up this morning and my daughter had every light in the house on this morning. I see she left three other lights on that I'm turning off in a sec. She will walk out and go to school with the lights on-ugh! I'm on that budget plan but now that spring is here-(for us its still winter with a hint of spring at times)-I can save on my bill and keep off the lights for as long as possible, even though they're energy efficient bulbs.

UGH my DH will walk out of the house with lights on in the morning. Can't seem to get him to think about things like that.

Hey I vote for just going to bed at 8 pm LOL.

That would save the planet and our wallets if 8 were the bed time!!! When I was a kid my mom put us to bed at 6, then 7:30 when we were like 12. She saved her sanity and light bill at the same time!!!

Barb, if you google "earth hour", you will find all kinds of info on this. We did it in March for the first time and intend to do it every month. Of course, within the next few weeks or so, we'll be doing it every night as it stays light here until almost 10:00 in the summer!

My DH and DD's are getting better about turning lights off because they're tired of me getting on their case about it. I am relentless - lol!

Speaking of lights I want to congratulate LEASMOM and this is just a great place to do it! She has received the "Good Idea lightbulb" award for suggesting our "Going Green" forum.

Good idea, I had not heard this. Doing something just once a year is not enough plus this saves money, too. It's a win-win.

I'm glad to see that there is more interest in going green & doing what we can to help the planet.

It stays light here until almost 9oo here now and then Its my bed time so all lights are off sometimes we have to tell DGS about the lights but not as much anymore I think he is starting to understand.
