The Hannaford store where i shop was giving away free canvas bags if you bought any of their organic store-brand products. It could be anything from cereal to cleaning products. I thought that was awesome.

Gardenlady, that sounds great. I had to switch to free and clear detergeant years ago because of a severe allergy to fragrances either by smell-(I later developed asthma to it) or on my skin. I love the new Clorox Green works because I can breath using it and I'm not sending any chemicals down the drain.

I'm glad to hear recommendations for cleaning products as I too have asthma and a lot of those products bother me. Thanks!

Sammi, good deal on scoring some free canvas bags. Buying some good products & getting a free reusable bag is a win-win.

Leasmom, I am not allergic to anything but nickel but I want to use products that are easier on the environment & that don't pollute our water systems. Clorox has been a big no-no in the past because of their chemicals so I'm glad they have come out with better cleanings solutions that are environmentally friendly. Hopefully other companies will listen & follow their lead.

I don't know if you have read other posts where I thanked you for suggesting a green forum. Last year, I started a Live Earth post & there were only a handful of us that seemed to be interested in the environment(Kathymac & Bilby come to mind). I was a little discouraged. Maybe the tide has changed or maybe it's more "in" now but I am glad you started this up. And I am glad to read that more people are taking steps to change their lives with the environment in mind. Hopefully we are on a roll & our government will join in.

Gloria

I think the atmosphere has changed. Last year I didn't even think about it but I started watching how things are changing, watching documentarys and seeing the two shows on Discovery Home that are being shown (Americanized)-on TLC for their upcoming Planet Green channel, Greenovate and Wasted and so I started just watching and then started doing. I think more people are becoming aware just like me. Everything counts.

I saw the shows Greenovate & Wasted a couple of weeks ago on TLC. I am looking forward to the change to Planet Green channel. I have also watched Living With Ed on HGTV & The Green On Sundance channel. Discovery & Science channels also do docomentaries on renewable energy & other environmental themes.

Glad to help Barb.

Gloria

We have switched all the light bulbs in our house to the flourescent bulbs, we compost, we give any household item or outgrown clothing to Goodwill or Salvation army and I have recently switched to "green" cleaners and I use safe resusable water bottles. I know there is so much more I should be doing.

Sammi, you are off to a great start! Have you ever heard the saying: "A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step."
