perennial or weed?

Brenda

I have this flower growing on the side of my house, over by a large patch of trees. I thought it was a weed at first, but the leaves aren't ugly like a weed. Do you recognize this plant?

Amanda,Has this plant thingie spread all over your garden????If it hasn't then I would say it is a plant. But if it is spreading then I would say it is a weed.

Well I've been pulling some weeds out that have similar leaves, so at first I thought that's what it was. But I just compared the two leaves and they are different, so they aren't the same plant. I only see this plant in the one spot. There's an area of trees and it's right on the outside of them.

The top part looks like a flower but the bottom part makes me wonder.I have pulled out a bunch of weeds and they were kind of pretty but spreading all over the place.Hopefully the expert can give you some answers.Let me try to look something up.

Amanda,I just typed in weeds on goggle.I went to a web site and I didn't see anything close to that being a weed.I am no expert but I would think that there is a good chance that it is a flower.

It looks like maybe perennial phlox? I just found a pic of Windsor Tall Hybrid Phlox-- look that up and see what you think...it's really pretty! I know it blooms right now because I have a red one and it's blooming. Yours is prettier though

Yes these are Phlox! You can buy them in many flower catalogs, they are an old flower. I have 4 different colors blooming and have moved some to under my bathroom window because of their sweet smell. Enjoy them!
