| Easter Garden Shells
I keep seeing the sweetest idea for an Easter Basket for the kids. Take an egg and blow it out and then dye it a pretty color. Take the narrow end off the top of the shell, carefully pick it away. And then fill it with a few tablespoons of starter soil (finer grained than potting soil), plant a quick growing seed like radish, bean, lettuce, etc and then when it sprouts, place in the Easter basket. A bit of sand in the bottom of the shell would be good for drainage and you could sprinkle a bit on top too. Save your egg carton and a dozen of them means a project for you and your child as you plant a little garden outdoors.
When you plant it if you crack off the bottom portion and keep an eggshell collar around the top it will help to keep the garden cutworms and slugs away from the seedling and the roots can grow out the bottom.
