I just moved to Seymour ,TN and I am surrounded by poison ivy plants. Does anyone know how to kill these plants and if using chemicals; need to be safe around dogs. I have 4 dogs from a 3lb chihauhau to a 50 lb lab mix. My Chi & Yorkie/Poo get into this stuff & then come love on me & I am tired of itching. I keep getting it on my face. ugggh
If you have poison ivy, you may also have jewelweed growing close to it. Jewelweed if you split the stems open the juice will immediately stop the itch of poison ivy. Having said that, if you do have it there you could grind it in a blender, add distilled water and spray the heck out of the dogs fur.. it will not hurt them, they've been lounging in it already if they are in the poison ivy. If you don't have jewelweed, do a google search and see if someone sells it. I make and sell Pine Tar soap which relieves the itching but if this is a permanant daily problem and the dogs are carrying the oil (poison ivy) on them all the time, that would only be a temporary solution.
Best Wishes
Anna

I’d Like To Help You Out.. Which Way Did You Come In?
The only way I know of killing poison ivy without chemicals would be to dig the plants out. But don't burn the plants, if you do you and your neighbors would be inhaling the poison ivy fumes.
I found these two recipes for treating the plants with on the internet.
Mix 3 pounds salt with 1 Gallon soapy water; spray the solution on the plant's leaves and stems.
Weed killer
1 cup of salt, 8 drops of liquid detergent,1 gallon of vinegarcombine the salt and vinegar in a pan heat it up to dissolve the salt pour into a spray bottle and kill away. Warning this will kill all plants that you spray so don't spray anything important.
Thanks all for advice!
Cant wait to go kill some ivy!
Still need to search about the jewelweed and find me a blender at thrift store to do the blending.
