Since our fall has approached earlier than usual and nights frequently are dropping down to the 40's I am preparing for that first frost. I learned this GREEN idea from my grandmother who used newspapers in her day which I do but however I shred them and junk mail then sprinkle them over my garden and make cones up the stocks of my bushes. I then sprinkle them to pat everthing down so it doesn't blow away. This serves in two ways first, warmth for them in the winter. And second to get a jump start on next spring as mulch.
