I do add plenty of stuff to the soil before I plant in it. Add the grass clippings each week too. The soil is so sandy when it rains down the rain gutters it goes right thru the soil with out puddling. Otherwise you can stick a branch from a bush and it takes right away. Everything has its good side and bad. We get afternoon showers every day so it helps.
