5 pts. water
1 pt. vinegar
1/2 cup salt (canning salt if you have it otherwise use NON-iodized salt)
garlic according to taste
pinch of alum the size of a pea
dill--fresh if you can find it (I never can) or 1 tsp. dry
I really think the secret to my grandmother's pickles was the fresh dill but my veggies were always awesome when I used dry. I'm looking for fresh before I begin.
I'm not sure how long you'd need to "cook" these since this recipe is very old and from waaaaaaay before the new canning guidelines. Check a reputable site before making.
Since I can never find tiny cukes I use veggies and most anything goes: cauliflower, brocolli, brussels sprouts, carrots, green beans, okra, etc., etc.
