I have been doing this for quite a while and it is very economical. After dropping dd at school I head to the grocery store. They put out the day before's baking at 8:45 at really low prices. I have picked up a $16 cake for $3. A dozen donuts are 99c. I pick these up for entertaining emergencies and for lunches. I hardly ever buy baked goods at full price, they are way too expensive. After I hit the baked goods, I go to the meats. Everything is marked down at least 30%. There is nothing wrong with these products, they just cannot sell them at full price as they were packaged the day before.
This can really save a lot of money and my family is always happy with what I can actually afford to purchase.

Good tip. I don't buy bake goods at all. I make my own to save money. Always have done this. If I buy a store bake cake my family has a fit.

I watch the sales and match coupons to get my best price for items that we use.

It is a good tip to check with your store on when they mark things down for clearance.

The grocery that I go to mark down things with that day or the next days date in the afternoon.

I make my own Baked Goods but also check out the marked down and for sure the meats. A couple of our stores mark down veggies and fruits so I check those if I am there

I always check the 2nd day bakery shelves, both at the grocery store and also at the bakery. One of the local stores also fills carts near the entrance and at the back of the store with discontinued and seasonal items that are marked down. I can usually find some great deals and always check them out.

In my area I go 2 the butcher and ask when he will b reducing the meats and he will let me c what he has ahead of time and the baker will also do this. It is well worth asking them...
