Roberta, thats quite amazing. The only church that makes noodles and such around here is the Polish church in the neighborhood and they make pierogis too.
I've also thought about noodles but we just don't use that many. Dh likes riggitoni noodles and spaghetti and I don't eat pasta so we don't use a lot.
Our churches in this area don't do that and they should... especially in the "yuppie, all natural areas of town" people would buy those like crazy. I am setting up now to make noodles, in looking a few pages furthur in the book it tells how to make it in the food processor which we have done in the past but just forgot about. Good tip on the food coloring too.

My church has a history of making noodles 40 yrs or more worth. As a little child I would go along my Grandmother to church on noodle days. All of the ladies had to bring their own rolling pins and knife to cut the noodles. There is a picture in an old church directory of the "noodle ladies" and I'm sitting on my Grandmothers lap.
Now they have a commercial mixer to do a dozen eggs at a time and two commercial noodle machines that roll the sliced dough out and then cut it too. Takes less then 4 hrs to put out 90-100 lbs of noodles now with a hand full of women. I'm always amazed at how quickly the 25 lbs of flour get used.
I think the idea of making noodles for raising funds is a great idea! I love making my own pasta, but don't do it near enough. I need to learn how to make a good marinara to go with it.
Yesterday was free chicken filet at KFC! My dh and my dd and I went to 3 places and have enough for lunches today and tomorrow with only the cost of gas, but we really enjoyed our drive.
Today I have cooked my pumpkin down. I did it in the pressure cooker, it only takes 5 min from the pressure point. That means I have made down 20 lbs of pumpkin in less than 1/2 hour! I will freeze it in baggies for muffins etc. later.

because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Don't get your knickers in a knot It makes you walk funny!
I too would love to see photos of the ladies back in the day doing the noodles.
Have the ladies ever tried using a pizza cutter for the dough? Seems like it might go faster than with a knife??? That is so great though and a nice way to do fellowship.
I started setting up to do noodles, made lunch, got sleepy and decided to get outside and do some work to run off some of the carbs I had for lunch. So noodles are on hold today... I went out and planted 30 tulips and 15 garlic bulbs. This is my first year planting the garlic so I'm really anxious to see how it turns out in the spring.
The tulips... red, purple and yellow I never did get to use all the coupons for the free tulips, only 3 trips 30 bulbs but that's plenty for one year especially my aching back now, whew!

I'll have to see if I can come up with some of the old pictures of the noodle ladies and see if I can scan them to upload. I'm not sure if there are any available. With the noodle machines now they flatten the dough then you change the setting and run the dough back through and it cuts it to the size you set it for. Pizza cutter would work well at home.
I tossed the throw that dd2 coughed all over and dribbled on into the wash with a load of towels and have a pan of tomatoes cooking down that have slowly ripened. There are a few more that will ripen up this week that we will probably just eat raw.
I always use my pizza cutter when I make egg noodles. I use the recipe in the Betty Crocker cookbook I got when I first got married. I only make homemade for chicken and noodles though, I buy boxed pasta for spaghetti. I bought a pasta machine years ago and used it a couple times and didn't like it and sold it in a yard sale.
Frugal today, dh has the day off and took a load of junk to the dump. I stayed home so we wouldn't be tempted to eat out. I did 3 loads of laundry yesterday and was able to dry them all on the line.
We had a wonderful visit with dd2 but it was too short, she and dsil and dgs flew home yesterday morning. We had a big party on Halloween though with Mexican food my dd1 and ddil made. We also had cake and ice cream for one dgs's birthday and he opened his presents a week early so dd2 and family could be here. Then 15 of us went trick or treating that night and it was so nice and warm, no coats, just tshirts.
Now this week things are back to normal and very quiet. I live on a dirt road and loved that Paul Harvey story, thanks Anna. Also I loved the tip for canned diced tomatoes for tacos, I will definitely be doing that.
I sure hope we hear from Jean soon, tomorrow will be 2 weeks since her surgery. I wish I'd asked for her phone number prior to the surgery so I could call her.
I think I will go make a pan of brownies for snack time and go check on dh in the garage and see if he wants some lunch yet.
Jacki
I'm worried about Jean too! And I'm concerned about Nikki, haven't seen her post either...
Jacki, sounds like you had a great time with your family. I imagine it's sad to see them go back.
I'm killing time to go pick the girls up from school, then it's off to the post office to get Rachel's passport taken care of...then take her to the employment place, she has a check there. Tonight's supper is breakfast, bacon, eggs, pancakes, or maybe waffles, haven't used the waffle maker in awhile!
Hugs,
Lisa

I have one of those noodle machines. I never have used it much, my youngest son has helped me since he was old enough to stand/sit on the chair. He has been making all our noodles for at least 8 years now. I have a wonderful recipe for noodles from someone's grandmother so something.
Noodles
1 egg beaten
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 t salt
2 T cream or milk
Beat all together. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Important! Let rest for at least ten minutes. Then roll out and cut. Dry and use or store.
I used to make noodles once or twice a year with the ladies in my extension club. It was so much fun.
The only new updates I have are I have another load of boxes to pack. We are waiting to hear back about the house loan. We applied at two different banks. Sounds like the owner will sell us the bar stools. I am not taking my dining room table. I don't love it so I am not taking it. I will find something I love OR trash to treasure something. Oh the taxes on this house are dirt cheap. Taxes here are sky high, lots of land but very few people. I think our county might have 2500 people living here. That is on the high side.
Oh my dh is acting completly different. he and dd had a fun pillow fight on the couch last night. It is like I am married to a different man. He cleaned out half the garage yesterday. He is getting rid of a lot of stuff too. Can't wait until we can start selling all the extras.
