Sueanne, does you reseeded stuff usually grow? I don't have a garden, but I saved my butternut squash seeds last week. I LOVE butternut squash. Should I go plant them our where we don't mow or walk much? Will they grow if I don't water them? I would love to have a garden, but don't have the time, equipment or know how.

I once read in the Tightwad Gazette that you could scrape the last of the jelly out of a jar, mix it with water and make popsicles out of it. That sounded much too frugal for me.

I would never reuse washing machine water or dish water twice but it could be used some way outside maybe.

As for eating food from a dumpster, I don't think I could ever do that.

That sounds like a gross popsicle.

Saving the lids off the milk jugs is so NOT over the top! We do it all the time! They're great for mixing small amounts of paint. example - when you need 3 different shades of red and don't have a paint palate.

We do this with seafood scraps/shells cause if we didn't in summer the stench would pong us out LOL but does sometime depend on how long till garbage pick up day.
We don't have heaters or air con.
Can't think of anything out there right now but will think on it.

Question, what would you use lint for?

MKS....It is according to where you live and the right temperatures and sunshine. Planted spaghetti squash seeds last month and they have flowers already. Every year I have a bounty for months.

Good morning all!!

Sueanne, I am with you. I have a 3 lb. margarine tub that stays on my counter. I put onion peels, potato peels, fruit peels, asparagus ends, etc. in it. At least once a week, I take that tub and dump it. Sometimes it is as close as the rose bushes in the front flower beds. Most times it is around back into the compost pile.

I also have the guy who has been mowing my lawn all summer, giving me a load of composting grass clippings that a woman asked him to start in her yard, and now wants him to take away. That will go on all my beds, and the nutrients will "dissolve" into the soil as the clippings compost.

I know that if you grow lettuce, spinach, collards, mustards or other "greens" that if you clip the ones you want to eat, without pulling the plant out of the ground, you will get more than one harvest. Cutting some of the leaves stimulates the plant to produce more.

Take care all!! Norma

Kathy, if you have a fireplace or fire pit you can use dryer lint to make fire starters. You can also make those in old toilet paper tubes.

I don't think I'd make grape jelly popsicles but I DO have a good way of using up the last of things like Hoisin sauce or mustard that are hard to get out of a jar. When you are making a recipe that calls for a sauce or salad dressing using one of those, pour all the other ingredients into the almost-empty jar. Put the lid back on tightly and shake it up. The sauce or salad dressing will be all mixed up and ready to use, and there is nothing wasted in the jar. I got this idea from watching "Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller" on the Food network. It works great.

Years ago a friend of mine worked for WM. They dumped the old candy in the dumpster. Employees watched for the boss and others took the candy out. It was packaged but still good.

I climbed in a dumpster once. It was a clean dumpster. We had started homeschooling and a lady had tossed tons of school books. I filled the back of my moms van with books.
