I got some of my refund labels etc where my dau worked as waitress, They had to go out back to smoke and they had snacks with them and the wrappers had to go in this bucket. So dau brought all the wrappers etc home to me. I got the forms from diff stores. Just got a rebate check today, from a skillet I bought almost a month ago. That will go in savings acct not a lot but every $ helps and this is 5.00

I used to work at Kentucky fried chicken in the mid 80's and we were able to bring the left over food home after it was divided between us workers, I have a friends daughter who works there now and they still do the same thing.
I do know that KFC are very secretive about their recipe but still good food ?????

There is a Salavation Army about 9 miles from here also. And there are a couple second hand stores and consignment shops.
We save our cans. Right now the price has really dropped so we are just letting them sit in the garage.

why would a case of beans be tossed out?

I wish I lived closer to town, used to dive all the time when I did, my apt neighbor got a whole stereo system one time

Now I just trash pick on bulk refuse days twice a year, not much more to get for the house though, start thinking about the dds and their apts/homes/etc.

When I worked at Family Dollar they would destroy items that were put in the trash bin. Once plastic pools didn't sell on the clearance they would have a big X cut into the bottom before throwing out.

If you all stood on each others shoulders than one could climb down into the dumpster and hand out the good stuff, but if he couldn't get back out, well...than all for the cause I guess. LOL...

Bilby a Twinkie is a type of snack cake. LOL

Blessings,
Dawn

Mom, nobody would want to be the one that goes into the dumpster.

WalMart also throws out stuff that is left after clearance sales have dropped to a dollar or two like clothes, seasonal items, etc.
Food like bread that is one day past the expiration date. That stuff can't be sold and they say they can't donate it to a food pantry for the same reason. It's past the expiration date. If soneone ate it, and got sick, they could claim it was from the food and turn around and sue WalMart.

I can see the food factor but why don't they donate the clothes, seasonal items to a homeless shelter or thrift store rather than just send them to the landfill?? That way they could probably get a write off & the stuff/clothes could be used by someone who would appreciate/use it. It just seems that we are more of a get rid of it society rather than seeing a way to recycle/find another purpose for things.

I had seen on an Oprah, maybe a year ago?, there are people who go through dumpsters to get things/food for themselves, shelters etc. I forgot what they were called but it was a Lisa Ling undercover investigation. They showed how much food is wasted by grocery stores, restaurants etc. some of it in sealed packages & useable. I have never done that but I don't see anything wrong with them doing it if they can use it & are okay with getting stuff that way.

We have a tv show called border patrol which shows how sneaky people try to e brining in stuff to Australia, believe me it's amazing how things are tried to be smuggled in and out of Au, they are very vigilant so that we don't get fruit and veg fungus, animals, drugs and all sorts, on people and in things.

One they showed $1000's of worth of fake branded clothes with I think Billabong (a surf brand here) on them not cheap clothes but not the ultra expensive either. It is up to the owner/manufacturer of the real branded stuff as to what happens to the cheap imports. They can go to homeless, over seas orphanages etc or be destroyed so that the badly made imports do not ruin the good reputation of the expensive stuff.

We find this show amazing at the brazenness and the absolute staunchness of people saying no they don't have food in their bags yet we are staring at bags and bags of dried and fresh fruit, actual seed pods that are picked from the side of the road in other countries to bring home cause it looked pretty but they find it crawling with bugs ewww!
