The Movies - Frugally

I've just posted an article entitled "Enjoying the Movies Without Breaking the Bank". There are several ideas there on how to enjoy the movies without it costing a fortune. If you have a moment, read the article and then add your comments here, especially if you have ideas that can be added to the article!

We go to the bargain movies. May have to wait 3-4 weeks but the tickets are only $4 each. I always have a big pocketbook and we bring our own water or soda, and candy or cookies. We do get 1 big popcorn to share (though DH eats most of it) They do give us a couple of small bags to divie it up. We try to go in the late afternoon then to the resturant next door that offers a free appitizer or dessert for each ticket stub. That way we get two appitizers, 1 adult meal that DH and I share and DD gets a kids meal. The kids meal comes with dessert so again Dh and I share one. This once a month treat for three only comes to about $30.

Another frugal place for movies is to borrow or trade with friends. My MIL had a thing with buying all kinds of movies. We would borrow them from her.
I wonder if anyone has had luck buying them at yard sales?

I bought tons at yard sales last year. Haven't seen a one this year. I do check them out from the library. They rotate them, so they are always getting something "new". We never go to the movies (we did see Lord of the Rings)...so even movies 2 and 3 years old are new for us.

I also check out cds from the library and if I especially like it, I tape it.

Last year, I bought "the perfect storm" at a yard sale...great deal....then I put it in the vcr....ROFL...someone had gone to a movie theater and videotaped the movie ...it was awful, people walking in front of the camera and everything!! They had printed a perfect jacket for it and I fell for it.
Oh well, live and learn. Pirates are alive and well.

Ooooh...on a happy note, I also got "babe" at that yard sale and the kids adore it. One day when my mil was visiting, I could tell she was a little bored, so I put in Babe and she LOVED it. So, it's a definite family favorite. DH loves the mice...and I love "that'll do pig, that'll do". I say that to DH sometimes....hehe...very lovingly, of course.;-)

We usually rent a few movies on pay per view. I found it to be cheaper than going to the video store. This weekend we are going to the movies to see Spiderman! Every month or so one of the local radio stations offers free tickets for a new movie to the first 250 people, so we are getting up early and waiting in line if need be! This is the first time we have done this but I just love a good frugal deal!

Movies -Frugally!! :)

Movies -Frugally!!
Alot of times I can come by Movies Frugally by going to the thrift stores and buying the movies there instead of waiting for sales to go on at the Movie Stores or at Wal-mart ,Target , or K-mart!!

I'm not sure it's all that frugal...but I watch em for free!

I own a video store in a small town.....I watch em for free, but they do cost a pretty penny! Be sure to check out your local video store's used movies section. You can get prev. viewed movies for not much mula, very often. I'm about to have a huge sale, it's the SLOW season for video stores so drop by your nearest store and see what they've got for cheap!:p

Good article Amanda

I havent been to a movie theatre for at least 6 yrs.....since Ive been married to DH. He cant sit still that long and he would constantly be making trips in and out --which wouldnt be frugal at all. We usually rent videos that way he can hit the pause button if he needs to. We also hit the older movie section where you can get them pretty cheap -.99-1.99 for 7 days !

We have started getting movies for my DS at our library too. We can keep them for two weeks ! He just watched Lady & the Tramp 2 and loved it ! We love the movie Babe as well ....so cute !!

It would have to be a really important event for me to pay those ticket prices to go to the theatre now ! I like the thought of free tickets though.

Does anybody have any good recommendations for a movie ? Its been about a month since we have even seen anything....sounds like a good idea this weekend.
