We went to see Star Wars last weekend and it was not frugal at all! I guess if I look at the big picture.......we went with my B-I-L who really wanted to go. We went because he helped us move all morning and afternoon. It was cheaper than paying for help to move! Also, DH enjoyed it (I thought it was just OK.)

We go to the next town over and watch movies for $2.00 a seat. Last weeks movie was Star Wars (still at the bigger theaters). This is an old time theater, has a balcony. They get the movies when they are still at the big theaters. We just wait a few weeks for them to show up by us. There is a new movie every week and it only plays one time a day, so I have to stand in line when the door opens at 6 and then we rent seat savers for $.25 each and put those on our chairs. I then shop around town until about ten minutes until the movie starts. (we usually go Thursday nights when the stores are open at night) We usually end up buying snacks there but the way we look at it is the movie is so cheap we need to support them in other ways too. A whole movie night costs us $20.00. (5 people, 1 big popcorn, 2 pops, 2 boxes of candy)

We live about 20 mins from a drive-in theatre; they show all the new movies and our boys just love it!!! We took them for the 1st time this summer and they were thrilled! It only costs us about $14.00 to get in (compared to even the $20/4 ppl at a matinee) and we bring our own snacks, drinks and blankets. They usually show a kids show first and then an adult show 2nd so the kids usually fall asleep soon after their show is over. And don't 4get - at a drive-in you get 2 movies for the price of 1!!!! We also rent alot of movies from our library - but since they're used SO much, make sure you clean your VCR heads frequently cause they will get dirty!! Just thought I'd share!!!

I also really enjoy the drive-in. We take blankets, snacks, and stuff. They had really good prices but now even their prices are getting more expensive.

We borrow nearly all our movies from the library. I don't know how other states work but Illinois is divided into library systems. We can borrow for free from any library in our system which is nearly all of North Western Illinois.
So, I go into the system and search for the movies I want. Some libraries won't inter-library loan entertainment movies but most will and I've learned which ones are which.
You can also take your card and go to any of the libraries and borrow the movies from the ones that won't inter-library loan them.

So, it would probably be worth looking into for those of you who have never tried it before. Most of our libraries get the new releases before the stores. We had Finding Nemo nearly 2 weeks before it hit any of the stores.

Lightbulb Movies

In the past I have gotten free movie passes for sending in rebate forms that I found on coffee and one time on batteries. We were able to see first run movies and with rebates I have even sent in offers and received a coupon from Block Buster movie rentals for a free night movie rental. We do not have a theater in our town so we used it for our birthdays one year and the movie rentals I usually send to my sister who is disabled and she uses them to rent a movie when our neice and nephew spend the night with her. It helps her out since she lives on disability income.

Hi all.. just me again trying to keep good topics goin'

Went to the drive-in Saturday night with Memin, Maggy and Angel.
For 2 movies ( GARFIELD and SPIDERMAN II) it was $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids. We spent $21.00 on admission. Not bad for 2 first run movies at a theater.

We had a BLAST and mortified my son in the process!

They played 80's music before hand and we were there 30 minutes or so early. Oh it was neat! Then they started playing 50's music and it was even better! Angel was SO embarrassed. He got in the truck mumbling

Memin made Maggy and I come right up out of our chairs toward the end of SPIDERMAN II. He had laid down because he had to work at 3 -4 am... it was 12:30 and we had a 45 minute drive home. He came up behind us and told us we needed to go... WOW.

We had so much fun and the rain held off.. I think that even thought drive-in's aren't as inexpensive as renting...they are worth taking the family for a treat and having fun!
