Leftovers

How long do you save your leftovers?
I empty out the fridge once a week. If it were up to my husband he would eat the leftovers until they turned green!

shocking eeck!

Men!! Gotto them huh? I honestly think without women the men of the world would already be extinct. I toss once a week the night before trash day but I do not need to toss much because I Investment Cook. Have you heard of it? It is where you take left overs and freeze them for sauces, soups, etc.

For instance one night I may have Rosemary Roasted Chicken with potatoes & carrots. The next night we would have chicken pot pie using the left over chicken and veggies. I would then strain the leftover broth into ice cubes. Once frozen I pop out into freezer bags to save for soup starter along with any veggies and chicken not used for pot pie (or if we didn't want pot pie) Then down the road (once we have enough) I make chicken veggie soup.

I just recently started this but it and it is my frugal thing to do as well.

Planning Mexican casserole for tomorrow night using the left over hamburgers from easter Sunday!

I have tried doing this but whenever I freeze leftovers they get freezer burn on them. Typically, I don't cook too much extra as it is just my husband and I and he does come home from work and has leftovers for lunch. Right now the fridge is full though because I cooked so much on Easter...

Where do you work at in Dallas? I remember Dallas with wonderful memories!!! Have you been to the Angelica Theatre or the Women's Museum...two of my favorite places there. The JFK museum is remarkable!...Oh, and the Farmers Market...I could go on and on.....

Love Angelika Theatre.

I love the Mockingbird Station area (where Angelika is) How long since you were here? Now the DART rail runs right from Plano (where I love) to Angelika Theatre so for $2 I can ride the rail to the movie, shopping and fun. There is also a couple of clun like restraunts and tons of shops. I that area!! Even more now that it it is on the rail!! No more sitting in traffic!!

Oh yeah..

I forgot to say something about the freezing thing. the trick is to use freezer bags and containers to freeze. I used to have that problem when I was buying generic bags. This is one thing I splurge on now. Name brand freezer bags! Sad huh?

I too leave leftovers in the fridge for about a week unless I run out of room for more stuff. Usually that doesn't happen.. Somethings I'm afraid of leaving in there for so long. I heard ham is only good for 3-5 days? Spaghetti sauces also I was told shouldn't be left for more than 3-5 days. Rumor or not I always want to be on the safe side. None of us can afford to get sick....

I sometimes leave leftovers in until they're ready to walk out themselves

Just kidding! But, I do forget to throw out leftovers immediately until I spot it in the fridge more than a week later. But, I started doing the Roll-Over Meals or the Investment cooking and it is working where I no longer just leave leftovers in there and forget about them. I like making something different out of what I already have and its something different for dd who hates leftovers. She should've been raised with my mother who would have us eat leftovers for an entire week, just adding more and more water until it was just soggy and bland! We always looked forward to a new menu but hated the end of the week!

In doing the Roll-over meals, it forces me to use what I have and I don't have to throw out as much.
