fathers day ideas!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take heavy paper and trace the child's hand. Cut out hand and add details to make it more lifelike. Tie a ribbon around index finger as a reminder and glue a little notepad to center of palm. It also says to attach a pen/pencil but didn't give directions on how to accomplish this.

Father Collage
Father collage from pictures of men and children cut from magazines. Add a photo of father and child with words printed on the paper -- "We are the best father/son team around!".

My special Friend

Daddy is my special friend,
The two of us are buddies.
I always like the things we do,
I'm thankful for my daddy.

Cute Picture Frames

Make picture frames out of Popsicle sticks and add little things such as beads and have the child write "I love you Daddy" all around the frame edge. Then put little magnets on the back in order to hang on fridge.

Cute as a Button Photo

Take a picture of each child in your daycare. purchase colored poster board and cut it into a frame shape with an opening large enough for the photo (usually 3x4) and enough space around the photo for the children to glue buttons. On the bottom of the frame write: Cute as a Button. On the sides and top allow the children to select and glue a variety of buttons. you can add a magnetic strip to the back if desired.

Fathers Day Picture Magnet

Take a picture of each child. Cut around the picture to show only the child. Cut a piece of magnet sheet approximately the same size as the cut picture. Take adhesive backing off of magnet sheet and adhere picture to magnet. Trim around the magnet so that all you see is the picture of the child.

Magnet Hand

Take a magnet larger than the size of your child's hand. Dip their hand in paint, place on magnet, sign and date. You can cut out the shape too

Daddy- sung to "Bingo"
There was a man who had a child
And Daddy was his name-o,
D-A-D-D-Y,
D-A-D-D-Y,
D-A-D-D-Y,
And Daddy was his name-o.

My Daddy Helps Me

My Daddy helps me when I'm sick.
My Daddy helps me when I'm blue.
My Daddy helps me when I'm sad.
Thanks, Dad, for all that you do!
You help, you help,
You help me feel so much better.
You help, you help,
You help me feel so much better.

We painted cans with lids for Father's Day for "Mary's College Fund." Ond Dad used it for "Going to Las Vegas Trip!" Several years later he asked for another one for his new child! The kids painted it how they wanted too.

ALWAYS REMEMBER MY HANDPRINT AND SMILE

This same hand first grasps your finger tight,
Then holds your hand to cross the street all right.
This same hand dirties walls and doors,
Then scribbles the birthday card you still adore.

This same hand scales rocks and trees,
Then asks for the car and household keys.
This same hand waves a grown-up goodbye,
Then spreads out wide to give the world a try.

This same smile first leaves your heart aglow,
Then giggles and laughs when tickled on toes.
This same smile howls at duck-duck-goose,
Then beams with joy over a wiggly loose tooth.

This same smile holds a mouthful of braces,
Then changes with teenage moods and faces.
This same smile broadens with youthful bliss,
Then leaves the nest with a farewell kiss.

I'll grow quickly and time will pass,
But this handprint and smile are yours to last.

We are painting plates for fathers day. I need to find plain white dinner plates in the next few weeks. We are using Applebarrel Indoor/outdoor paint to put a handprint in the middle - then a dishware paint pen (probably found at Michaels) to write "The way to my daddy's heart is through his belly" and put cookies on the finished plate after we cook the plate (directions on the back of the applebarrel paint).

FOOD FOOD FOOD! Dads never refuse sweets. I have always done cookies or other treats for dads. One year I bought a big Mickey Mouse pan at Michaels - we baked choco. chip cookies in the HUGE pan and decorated them with the icings, etc that can also be found at Michaels. The dads REALLY REALLY REALLY liked that one! lol

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Everyday I am growing up
and soon I will be so tall
That the handprints on this case
May be very hard to recall.

So here are two of my handprints
on this pillowcase to stay
and show you how my fingers looked
This year on Father's Day.

We've painted the really big coffee cans
white, put their handprints on them and filled them with cookies,
etc. the kids made. Then the dads can use the cans in the garage
for nails, screws, etc.

Father's Day Footprint

Print out the following poem and then glue on a very
large footprint cutout. Then have the children make a
footprint over the words with watered down tempera
paints. You can laminate it and put string in the back
for hanging or put in a frame.

Footprints

"Walk a little slower daddy," said a child so small.
I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to
fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast.
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you."

Get a shop rag, have the child paint their hands with
black paint, make hand prints on the shop rag then use
a black permenant marker and write "Daddies little
helper"

I took the CD's you can get all over the place from AOL, etc. The children traced around a CD and cut out wall paper the shape of the CD and put it on the back of the CD (where the label would be). On the front (the shiny side) we glued a small picture of the child, then I wrote:

I am a reflection of the good in you, Daddy.

We put magnets on the back. These were a big hit.

I sent home construction paper with each mom, grandmother etc. and had them trace around dad's, grandpa's or whoever would receive a Father's Day gift in their family. When I got back the tracings, I traced around each child's foot behind the father's foot. Then at the bottom it had that poem about walk a little slower, Daddy.

Just found out recently Crayola makes crayons which can be used to make pictures on plain white paper and then the drawing can be ironed onto shirts, etc. They are pricey ($5 per box), but I think they will make a pretty nice gift for the dads. My plan is to ask each mom to provide a new T-shirt. I'll have the children make a drawing with the crayons, iron onto the appropriate T-shirt, with any appropriate sayings, etc.

Gross Motor Skills:
Walk a Mile in Dad's Shoes

Gather several pairs of assorted men's foot wear (boots, slippers, dress shoes, etc.) Check your local resale shop for them, ask dads to donate those old boots that are in the back of the closet!
Children love playing in dad's shoes. Let them walk around in in them, put them into the dramatic play area. Talk about what dad might be doing when he is wearing each pair of the shoes.

Take "giant" dad steps to transition to different activities.

Fine motor/sensory

Let children pretend to shave, using either non-allergenic shaving creme or cool whip or the kind of whipped cream that comes in the spray can. Use craft sticks as razors. Be sure to have mirros for them to look in while they shave.
Let them shave an orange or a ball, a doll's face. Let them experiment.
Why do dad's shave? Does our dad (grandfather, uncle, friend) shave?
What does your dad smell like after he shaves?

Art:
Provide simple oval drawings to represent faces. Provide black, brown, red, yellow crayons, yarns, felt, fake fur, sand, glue. Let the children draw and/or glue dad's beard!

Sensory:
This week (before Father's Day) send home a small film canister or other small bottle with each mother, grandmother etc. Put a cotton ball in each one, and be sure to label the bottom of the container so you will know which father or other important man in the child's life is represented. Ask mom to put dad's favorite after shave or cologne on the cotton ball and then put the lid on. We passed these around and all of the children could "find" their own dad by the smell in his cannister. One mom had used a brother's after shave because the father wasn't in the home. As that cannister went around the circle the little guy open it, smelled, closed his eyes, smiled and said "BUBBA!" (we're from Arkansas, so all brothers are Bubbas here!

I put coffee in the sand tub during June. Many men drink coffee so the children associate the odor with dad.

Tell the children a special story about yourself and your own dad --then let the children share something they enjoy doing with their own dads. Be sure to write their responses on a chalk board, dry erase board or chart paper.

We are making papier machier bowls for the fathers this year. I'm going to put vaseline on bowls, then let the kids put about four layers of newspaper strips on the outside of the bowl. When it all dries, they'll paint it. Purpose of the bowls will be for dad to put his keys, change and other small items from his pockets into at night. It will require the next few days to make the bowls and the on going projects are good for the children.

idea we are doing

Hi all~!

Actually, I babysit my niece. For all the holidays I try to do something for her parents. She's 17 mos. so we are pretty limited to what we can do.

For Father's Day we are making a Daddy's Goodie Jar.

Using a plastic container with a twist lid (fairly cheap) and stickers.

We're just going to decorate it with the stickers and using letter stickers spell out Daddy's Goodies...then she can fill it with candy and goodie.

Then we make a card.

Very Simple~!
