What happened to my wardrobe?

Somewhere between getting married and working such casual jobs I have lost my sense of style!! I can wear sweat pants and T shirts to work and I wear shorts and t shirts all summer. (comfy sweats and fleece in the winter...) I wear dresses to church but only have a few. Not to mention I cannot fit into my jeans because of all the junk I eat!!!

What kind of stylish things are in your closet, or are you in the same kind of rut that I am in?

I dont even know what stylish clothes are any more. I pretty much dress exactly like you do. I have made a vow to buy some nicer looking casual clothes thought....especially now that Im losing weight. Being a SAHM, I dont really have a need for dressy clothes anyway but I do have a couple pairs of pants that I can dress up. I also have a couple of long summer dresses that Im hoping to get back into this summer without looking like Im wearing a tent.

Until recently I was feeling sloppy. Since 1 month ago, Ive starting Atkins, started exercising(Curves) and cut my hair. I still want to get some new clothes. Im so pale, I would love to go to a tanning bed but Im afraid that I will just fry instead of tan. Oh well, cant have everything.

I'm in the same rut you're in! Since I usually wear pants to Mass, I don't think I have even two dresses that fit me!

I'm in the same rut---sweats, jeans, oversized shirts. Hate it but can't seem to justify buying something nice as I don't have a "nice" lifestyle.

Ajrsmom have you thought about spray on tanning? I did it a couple of times last year.

I've begun remaking myself... and re claiming my sense of style. I highlighted and restyled my hair... I get my nails manicured every week and I got my very first pedicure yesterday.. ( it felt great!)

Now as far as clothes.. I'm not talking the latest fashion here.. I don't buy what's trendy, because it doesn't necessarally work for me.. but I do have a personal style, and I'm tired of the frumpy stuff I've worn since the kids were small.

I have been shopping the clearance racks as much as I can, and also buying clothes that fit certain color families, so many outfits can me made from just a few pieces of clothing.

I found that although I am a plus size, I am a women's petite plus size, and if I buy a petite size I can actually buy a size smaller and it looks better on me!

I have bought real zippered jeans instead of pull up legging jeans. They're "fit n flared" legged jeans instead of streight legs ones, and I try to keep them pressed.

I pair them with camisoles and sheer shirts in the gauzy peasant prints that are out now. I also wear sheer or open weave blouses over camisoles or t-shirts a lot. I like denim shirts some with embroidery touches.. but nothing that puts a mural accross your chest..LOL! This is the same look I wore in college! I feel stylish and feminine and it feels great..

I have a nice suede jacket that I like a lot.. and cloggs, sneakers, loafers and mules that I switch off between.

I only wear heels to "dress up" because I have a bad back. Heels are never over 1 1/2 inches high..

I recently bought a lined chiffon skirt in a blend of pink and gray-tone florals.. it goes with a washable silk 3/4 sleve blouse I bought in a soft pink. This is an "out to dinner" type outfit. ..on clearance the whole thing was under $65...

I found a georgeous black, 2 piece crepe and chiffon dinner suit for only $68,,reduced from the original $175.. I'll be wearing that to a 50th anniversary dinner I'm going to next Saturday..

I have been going for softer materials in general. Microfibers, washable silks and linnens, chiffon and lace..

I wear makeup whenever I remember to..and earrings ..

It's all new to me... I used to be a "what you see is what you get" type of girl, because I was so overwieght.. But hey.. This IS me.. ALL of me and that doesn't diminish who I am.. or what I'm worth.. So I might as well package ALL of me in the kind of wrapping that lets the viewer know the worth of the contents.. And I am beginning to remembr that the worth is quite remarkable..

Val,
I think the new you is super!

I too am in a rut, wearing sweat type clothes...I am ready to lose the baby weight leftover from both kids, then I will be buying some new things that work for me! I will let you all know when that is...

Hi Lifestar,
You have a wonderfully amazing sense of style!!! Sounds like you have found some really nice outfits!!
I especially think the camisoles with sheer peasant type shirts overtop sound so pretty!!
What colors do you like to wear?

Welll.. Color, huh?

I tend to stick to basic black and navy for my pants... Camisoles are black, navy and beige or white.

(I have a few pairs of light colored pants that make special outfits. A pale plae banana color.. a pale mossy green and a soft camel. These go with special shirts that cought my eye outside my usual fare)

Tops are mostly in the jewel tones. I have some softer "ashey" blues and rose colors too. In the summer i wear bright clear primary colors. Paired with teh neutral bottoms they work out well.

Dresses are usually black.... I tend to sy away from patterns because of my caboose LOL!

The skirt I bought is a colorful deviation from the plan. I like it a lot. it happens to be feminine ans slimming..surprisingly so!

How about you, Trainlady?

Last week I was looking for a new pair of sneakers. I live in sneakers. My favorites are Tretorn but I was unable to find any in my size, online or in the few stores that still carry them. So here I was, all upset because I couldn't get the shoes I have been wearing for the past 20 years!
Then it occurred to me, I don't need sneakers for my "everyday" shoes. I have a pair of Lands End summer clogs from last year and I like them, but it's hard to run after a toddler while wearing clogs. So I got the summer moccasins. They still feel like a sneaker but look nicer!!

I am trying really hard now that the weather is getting nicer and I'm outside more, to wear nicer looking clothes. Plain or print t-shirts, or golf shirts, instead of tees advertising the last place we went on vacation. Jeans or walking shorts--or I have one pair of capris, which make me feel like Mary Tyler Moore in "The Dick Van Dyke Show"

Just because I am a mom of a toddler plus 2 big kids doesn't mean I have to dress badly. And it doesn't take much more effort, and makes me feel good.

(Of course, this morning I came home from church, got rid of the skirt, sweater and hose, and put on sweats and sneaks. Sometimes I just need to be comfy But it feels good to know that this is not my everyday uniform--which just made me feel frumpy.)

All those years of Seventeen magazine were a waste on me. I still have no sense of style. Colors yes -kind of - but no style.

And as my hubby works with fashion plates in the biz world he's giving me the pressure. Even one of his girl friends at work said I dress like a grandma. Well, I won't deny that I'm in comfortable clothes...but they aren't sweatsuits.

I am going to go the owner of the consignment store in the nice suburb and ask for her help. Has to be cheaper than the personal shopper at the department store!

Then I will put on every outfit I have and take a picture. I will

1) know what I have and
2) know what I had better get rid of
3) know what to keep.

Should I take a pix from two angles???
