Theresa - sorry you had to put up with abuse.

I don't have any sisters but do have three wonderful SILs.

Redcardinalbird, you are so lucky to have wonderful SIL's.

I met my half brother a couple of years ago,he is a retired O.P.P officer,he thought that he would try and bring my sisters and I together since both parents have passed away, didn't work.I tried to explain to him that the beatings I took from my sisters, brothers and parents may have been a long time ago,but I still carry the scars to this day.He still does not understand why I don't want anything to do with my family. He stopped talking to me to because I wouldn't do things his way.
There are 13 children in my family not including my father's 3 kids from his first marriage,a total of 16.My father was very abusive towards me,my mother was the same, was it just me they didn't like??? I grew up being terrified to say anything to anyone, afraid to tell my teachers,my friends.I made a promise to myself that when I had children,my kids would never have to feel afraid.

Theresa - that is great that you were able to break the cycle of abuse. Often children repeat what was done to them.

It is true that it is hard to forget what has been done to us. Fortunately we can usually regulate it to the back of our minds and go on with life. It is not forgotten but it does not rule our lives.

That is too bad that your half brother stopped speaking to you because you didn't bend to his wants.

That is one thing that needs to be done more often,Breaking The Cycle Of Abuse.I believe children need stability in their lives, something I never had growing up,didn't know from one minute to the next where we were going to live,if my father would still be at home.Thankfully my kids never had to go through what I endured at the hands of my family, they had stability, love, care and understanding, unconditionally.
