no military kids-I tried to get each of my girls to enlist out of high school: for the life experience, the college money and so they'd know what is was like to live somewhere else--none of them went for it (my oldest was in ROTC-Army for 2 years but she didn't want to enlist)
My husband was in the Air Force-I had planned on enlisting but got pregnant-at that time you couldn't serve if pregnant and if you had kids you had to basically give them up while you were in basic and possibly in service-that did change though.
My brother-in-law was in the Army-a lifer, they went all over but he never saw any war time-it was all peace action for him. His daughter, my niece is now in the Air Force-couldn't get a job out of college so she enlisted. She's been to Afghanistan 2 or 3 times-media escort mostly, she hasn't actually seen any action but has been close to it. She recently gradutated from Officers School and is now a 2nd Lt., don't know where she'll be going next-but currently she's in Utah.
My dd#3's husband enlisted in the Marine's out of high school and couldn't hack it-kept going AWOL-and he never went anywhere, just couldn't take the regimen.
My Dad was a Marine-went to Korea for 6 months and got a medical discharge.
I keep our military in my prayers.
