DVDs--How do you get them?

How do you receive your dvds?

Do you rent them locally, use Red Box or Blue Box, use NetFlix, the library....or ???

Red Boxed are very popular around here and most of the time you cannot get a copy of a just-released video. We've been purchasing a monthly 1/2 off ticket for videos and video games at our local video store but that still is pretty costly.

I was thinking of joining Netflix but it looks like you can only get one movie at a time now...is that right?

What's the cheapest way you've found to get movies?

We rent new releases at Red Box and older movies for $1 or less at Family Video. The library doesn't have a very good selection of movies but we do get one there from time to time for free. For movies that we would like to own we try to keep a running list and ask for it at birthdays and holidays.

Redbox has been around for a year or more they rent new releases for $1 a night at businesses. In my area McDonald's, Kroger, Walmart, Walgreen, etc have them you need a credit card to charge the $1 plus tax. They get new movies every Tuesday and on their website you can find free rental codes a couple times a week.

One of my most favorite things in the world to do is go to the movies but it was getting to be very expensive so I joined Netflix. It is saving me a lot of money and I get movies very quickly. I now save money but watching the Netflix movie and making my own popcorn!

My dh wants me to look into Netflix.

I grabbed a deal on Groupon (or one of those deal places) a couple of weeks ago to get five movie codes from BlockBuster Express for $2.00. Redbox had a special out a few days later but for some reason, I forgot about it and didn't grab it, too.

Right now we have HBO and all of the other pay channels. I want to get rid of them because we never watch anything on them. I'm trying to decide if Netflix would be a better deal for us.

Sammi, do you like it?

Tami, Netflix is only $9 a month. I get a movie, watch it, send it back and another movie on my list arrives so fast i can't figure out how they do it. The movies come incredibly fast or you can have them delivered directly to your television or computer. There are also a lot of movies you can watch instantly without having to get them in the mail. I have been impressed with them so far. You can also keep a movie as long as you want with no late charges.

Are they new release movies or older movies? How do you watch them instantly?

Thanks for answering my questions!

We don't have cable and haven't had for about 5 yrs so we watch alot of movies. We mainly get our dvds 3 ways... we get alot of our dvds from our library but they don't get new ones often enough so we've seen most of them so we'll order them through inter library loan (our library requests what we want from other libraries..we've gotten stuff from as far as Wisconsin before and with ILL requests, we usually get them longer than the 7 days our library does); we also rent from RedBox, especially when I get free movie codes but lately we've been getting alot of our dvds from SwapADvd.com You post your dvds that you want to get rid of and then someone else will request them and when you send it to them, you get a credit. Then you use your credits to order the dvds that others post. The only cost is the cost of you mailing your dvds to those who request them...usually cost me about $1.09 per dvd. I've gotten quite a few kids dvds this way the past few months and have gotten rid of alot that we've outgrown or just were done with. I love it!!! They have swap a paperback and swap a cd, too!! Check it out!

Tami, Netflix gets both new releases and older movies - you can even get tv series on dvd (one that have been released). You make a list (your queue) and list the movies in the order you would like to receive them. If you have a ps3 or wii you can get movies directly to your tv or they have a device they can mail you that will do the same thing or you can watch movies even on your computer. You can add (save) a new movie that isn't even out on dvd yet and as soon as it is released it comes up on your list. Sometimes new releases have a waiting list but I have never had to wait long at all. What I like best about Netflix is there are no late fees and I only have walk to the end of my driveway to drop the movie in my mailbox to return it.

Stacia, my library has lots of movies too but I had never thought about seeing if I could get a movie on inter-library loan. I will have to look into that.
