Having the kids play outside.Being in the garden.Walking my dog,Riding my bike.Going to the free movie night here in town.Going to the pool.Having fun at the park.
I put road trips and--well, the poll disappeared. I was going to look at the poll to see what I checked. Anyway, I also put other "other" because we also like to go camping. Camping is a hit in our family during the summer.
I went back. I also put drive-in movies. We LOVE going there!
Free concerts on the city square, they gave a picnic permit for the summer, and anywhere from 1000 to 1500 people, families, get together and listen to different type of music every week. Jazz, regaee, blues, celtic, you name it! People set up from simple picnics on the ground to small bistro tables with wine buckets and gourmet food. Never, never in the 16 years have they ever had a problem with the crowd. Coolest way to spend 2 hours with friends.
Other than that, road trips in the country, fresh brewed ice tea and a book on the patio, watching for the first tomato...very important!, the farmers market, visiting with the neighbors in the street at dusk. Obviously, we live in a quiet neighborhood to stand in the street.
I like cookouts, hanging out with friends in the fresh air. I went to a drive in on Sat nite with my brother and his wife. It was wonderful sitting outside watching the movie! I could do that more often! Plus it was cheap too, $20 for a carload to watch 2 first run movies.
I would also enjoy walking on the bike path but I don't want to go alone. Hubby and son are both in bed by 8:30 or so. It sounds like you guys do a lot of things outside in the summertime. You're definately giving me ideas!

Four years without my best friend
I love camping with friends and family. It combines all my favorite summer activities: swimming, bbq-ing and just spending lots of time outdoors and away from it all.
Visiting local parks, zoos, and aquariums (lots here in WA)! My Dh and I were not fast enough to get to the local car show 15 minutes up the road (and sponsoring a Susan G. Komen - cancer proceed event), so we rove on over to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium (last weekend to visit/see the only Beluga whale left there), and ended up walking for 2 hours! Can not say I saw even a 10th of the Z&A! However it was a good and warm day

Now that we live in Arizona... I find play areas inside Malls, and staying home to be adequate summer activities. Come fall though, visiting out door parks, and some of the local cities can be adventures as well. Of course there is always the 8 hour drive into California if we want to visit Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm,, the beaches, Universal Studios, and other family.
