Letterboxing

We hike and camp a lot with our kids, travel by car a lot . . .
We've started letterboxing. It is soooo fun and everyone gets involved. Does anyone else letterbox?
We purchased stamps for each child initially, although we are going to let our oldest (8) carve a new one this summer.
We've all become better acquainted with our compasses and with reading maps, and it is like a treasure hunt with really fun clues, riddles, etc.
For more info, visit the Letterboxing North America website http://www.letterboxing.org/ the cool thing is that even if you are visiting or living in another country, letterboxing is worldwide!

I just found this thread. This activity looks like so much fun!

Are you still doing this? I love would to hear some of your stories and tips that you have for doing this.

There's a lot of treasures in my area of NC. I'm going to do some more reading on this and then see if my husband and kids would be interested in joining this.

This is a great family activity!!

Thanks bsktbug2 for sharing this with us!!

We are still letterboxing. I've been learning, along with my 8yr old, how to carve stamps. I carved a vw bug, and Billy the Kid, he carved a lightning bolt. It's really quite fun!
Whenever we plan a hike or car trip, we check to see what letterboxes are near, or on our way. Our kids actually look forward to car trips if we plan a little extra time to find a box or two.
Even my husband is addicted! We finally planted our first box! It only has one stamp in it, but we are soo excited.
Good luck and have fun! It is like a treasure hunt, and who doesn't like a good treasure hunt?!
