I found that regardless of where we go we try to pack our belongings as if we are going on a trip. In other words, if it can be rolled-up, back-pack carried, and or slung over the shoulder - that's how we get our gear in/out of our leisure activity. We have folding chairs that go in their own sac which we can carry over our shoulder, we have canvas bags and back-packs for clothes/towels, etc and only carry what we can handle. If you need a blanket to sit on the ground - make sure it's light weight to start with. fold/roll it to the bottom of bag/pack and then add clothes, towels, food and drinks, make sure everyone carries their own stuff (minus blanket and food / drink supplies - that's best carried by an adult or person w/strong upper body).

I have a collapsible rolling cart that I use to transport many things.

Since I posted in 2006, I encountered a neighborhood pool and had to cart my stuff to the pool as well. I made my grandchildren carry their own noodles. I used a tote that would be able to breathe that we had been given for free, but can be purchased at a low cost at Walmart to cart our stuff. I put our sunblock, floaties, drinks, snacks, cell phone, and anything else we might need in it. If you need multiple drinks, you can always bring the tote and a soft sided cooler with a blue ice box. That worked for us.
