The Ice skating rink only opens every December and closes on January when the school resume. I decided to take my boys and spend time at the Ice skating rink. I do not know how to ice skate but wanted to learn. I went and had fallen five times, it was fine by me because I was not alone. I need pointers on how to balance myself and not keep falling. Anyone?

Stand up tall use your arms for balance by holding them out at your sides. Take small walking steps to start until you feel comfortable then try to glide slowly at first using your arms for balance. It takes lots of practice but once you master it , it will never go away. Good luck and most of all have fun. I figure skated for years and love the feeling of flying around the arena.

WOW. I went back for more last night. That explain why my arms are all ache. I was told to bend my knees a little and then lay my shoulders forward, this way if I fall I will fall with my hands foward and not on my back.

Sounds like you are getting some great tips, yes bending your knees is very important, especially when you get more into gliding and away from the baby steps. Glad to hear you are falling forward and not on your behind. When I was younger a neighbor came to skate with us on the pond and actually tied a pillow to his bottom from falling so much!!!LOL

LOL!! I love ice-skating, but I've never been any good at it...even as a little kid!! Children seem to get the hang of it so quickly...I wish I had
Speaking of ice skating...I just saw something about a new Disney movie coming out in March...seems like a great movie for young teens...called "Ice Princess"...I think my niece would love it!
I went iceskating when I was younger with friends and just never could get the hang of it.
Now Roller Skating I could.
But I have always loved to watch the ice skating couples on tv skate to music.

ha ha. you sound like me. every year my husband says i'm going to break something. but i love it even if it is just once a year. my advice. do it more often. or maybe rollerskate a few times in preperation. i've tried all sorts of tricks on my yearly adventure on ice and never improve.
We just had an indoor rink open in our area (well, its only an hour away). I was a figure skater as a child, so I couldn't resist taking the kids for open skate. It was a lot of fun, but not quite like riding a bike. Didn't quite pick up where I left off!
The kids loved it though and we had soo much fun!
