I like Debora's idea as well, and should I ever run into a person like that, I shall use that idea. As for the "I don't know____" MIL use her phrase back on her.
One of my cousins has a saying "It's all about Karma." What others do to you (positive/negative) is what they get back in return 10 fold, and I have to agree with her. The more nice things you do say to others you are always bound to get something nice in return (even if it is just a smile), but you do something underhandedly / mean to them and you get what you give.

Always told our kids, remember ever mother-in-law is somebody's mom. Treat them with respect.

I meant that. Never said a bad word about my in-laws. Never. If I had to,we'd talk out on the porch or sit in the car, away from little ears. That was important to me.

Not any more. Don't bash them, but I don't candy coat it. Let's put it this way,"there are some clubs I'll never have a membership with." Their choice not mine.

Very sad, cause my own family has always been distance. Totally split apart when our parent's divorced. We were so young. Time didn't seem to heal those wounds.

I envy people who are friends with their in-laws. Hope they know how lucky they are.

We just had our 5 year anniversary in Nov. and still his family hardly recognizes me as his wife. I don't have a lot to do with them. I refused this year to go to his family's thanksgiving dinner because usually when we would go they would almost completely ignore me, it was so uncomfortable. So, we had a nice one at home with my son and his little family.

So, I guess my problem isn't as bad as others who have in-laws who cause huge difficulty in their lives.

Blessings,
Dawn
