What a sweet dog and how blessed he is to have a family like yours to love and keep him instead of giving him up because he had a health problem. Thanks so much for sharing the photo and I'm a firm believer in spoiling dogs rotten, just ask my 3

person especially when it comes to animals. He was broken up over hearing about Riley's diagnosis. Then we talked it over and the first thing that comes to your mind is protecting YOUR own feelings by discussing whether or not to put him down "so he doesn't suffer". But then we decided that we just let nature take it's course. We do the best we can for him and look how long he has lived past the Vet's announcement!
Speaking of the vet, he is shocked everytime he sees Riley, and he feels that at this point, he isn't suffering any yet, he isn't starving or anything, so he recommends we maintain a status quo.
Anyway, thank you for your nice comments and interest.

We adopted our shepherd mix from the local shelter. He is now 6 mos. old and such a blessing.
We also have a daushaund/ beagle mix who was also rescued. He is 8 years old. He originally belonged to breeders who attempted to drown him and his sister Molly because they were not "good enough" and my Tippy was the runt. The folks who saved him took Molly and gave Tippy to us.
A breed I highly recommend for kids are labs and golden retrievers.
Our family raised puppies for "THE SEEING EYE" and although it was heart wrentching to have to return Keno to them, raising him was a blessing.
TSE uses goldens. labs and shepherds. Keno is a yellow lab. We learned so much about raising dogs and socializing by raising a guide puppy, and I think that is why our 6 month old, Lobo does so well.

I'm so glad you included the picture of Tippy. We have a daschund/beagle mix too, wish I were more adept at attaching photos It looks like Tippy has the beagle coloring and the daschund body. Ours is a long red hair, she looks all daschund but her personality is more beagle. Little Devil went out in the snow packed yard this morning and wouldn't come in, made me go out in the snow in my flip flops and get her!
