I want to be a better me!

I have an appointment with a new General Practicioner on Friday. I have LOTS of questions for her because the last Doctor I had just blew me off. I am now 33 and 40lbs over weight. How did that happen you ask? A variety of factors I suppose ranging from childhood inactivity to pregnancy to gluttony and lack of self control. So...what am I going to do about it? I don't yet. I will talk to the dr. I've tried Atkins, South Beach, Prism, Weight Watchers and Slim Fast. All have the potential to work. I like WW's the best because of the flexibility. But you know what? I have to DO IT, and do it for more than 3 days or one week. I eat healthy foods I just eat waaaayyy too much and exercise too little. I'm feeling sluggish, swollen, tired, cranky and my feet and joints hurt. I want to LIVE life not just be a spectator which I most definately am right now. I'm scared of diabetes (had gestational diabetes while pregnant) I'm worried about heart disease and cancer. I'm worried about early onset of arthritis. I'm worried I will become a recluse in my own home so I'm not embarassed to have people look at me. I've even become self conscience with my parents, my husband and my church family. I am going to try to make a committment to journaling here. My daily struggles and more importantly my daily triumphs. I love EVERYTHING about my life except my weight so why not change that too. Wish me luck!!!

Sandra

I wish you great luck Sandra, its great you want to change, I hope I can too. It is all a journey as you say and its a challenge to stay on the right path. But we can do it! I want to see my grandkids grow up and if possible my great grandkids! I want to grow old as disgracefully as I can and enjoy myself doing it! I cannot do it if I am scared of being looked at because I am fat and of being unhealthy. Slimmer and confident is what I want to be!
Best of British luck to you my girl!

Aww thanks Sally! I really appreciate it. It's going to be hard. Really really hard but a lot of women do it and suceed! I saw that new Dr. today and she was really great. She's my age (33) which feels a little funny in one way and totally cool in another. She's battling the weight too so she totally understood. I have an appt. with her in one month and I'd love to go weigh in with a decent beginning weight loss. I was 182lbs today (ahhhhhh) and realized that I have gained 12lbs just in the last three months. Not not good.

You can do it too Sally and you have all the right reasons. I want to go to my son's baseball games and not feel like "the Mom who's the big fat cow!"

And American cheers to you!

Sandra

Sandra , I think you look great right now and DO NOT FEEL BAD about yourself or your self image! I too am trying to lose weight and I know how hard it is,BUT YOU CAN DO IT! It is good that you aren't waiting till the gain is huge as in my case. I am sure till such time as you lose the weight ALL your friends and family love you just the way you are!!! And a good friend once told me that what the strangers are thinking about us is none of our business. I like that ...and I do think it is true. They don't know us so they wil think what they will. Just remember people love you as is and you just want to be here longer! Good luck!

Thank you Candy...You're very sweet (seriously no pun intended!!!)

I've tried to go through today being conscience of how much I was eating per meal. Now dinner is here and it's the hardest one for me. And then to choose a fruit for dessert instead of something else.

I know my family especially my dh loves me no matter what. But he does know I'll be so much happier with the weight off.

It seems like such a long journey though. I'm always fighting the urge to have instant gratification

Sandra,

I was overweight after my 2 pregancies (and a little before)! I am not endorsing them in any way, but I joined curves when ds2 was 7 weeks old he is now 17 months and I have lost 43 lbs! I feel great in regards to my weight! I am so afraid do to employment problems (dh is unemployed) that I may have to quit, but if I do I also found I enjoy just walking 3 to 4 x a week! Good luck I am sure you can do it.

Sandra, I fight with the urges to eat the wrong stuff and way to much all the time,I understand. But you can work those foods into your life so you still feel like part of the human race and are still losing weight. I see you were doing ww at one time. They are the closest thing to a normal eating pattern I can get and I like them. That being said sometimes it just needs to be a day without points...I stilll am aware of what and how much I am eating. Make up your mind how many calories and fat you can spare for really good desserts a few times a week if that is what will keep you going. Just remember portion control, which has been a doosy for me. You can find a way to do this. My doctor said even if you don't lose weight you can get more healthy. My bones were hurting all the time and etc , etc. Just eating healthy can improve how you feel at the same weight! YOU CAN DO THIS! Yes you can . Good luck and BTW I think you are very pretty. Baby steps in the right direction. Going to the doctor was a good baby step. knowing what you want to do is also a good babystep. Every meal you eat less at than what you know you normally would is a good baby step! Speaking of steps, any extra steps you take will also help. I know you already know this stuff as I do but positive reinforcement never hurts! Right? Go Sandra!!!
