Barf Diet For Dogs

Has anyone here tried this diet? We just started on it yesterday after our youngest pup having repeated yeast infections in her ears for the past 4 months, we've spent over $400 trying to get it fixed, one of the vets we saw suggested a no grain diet and we started doing research and talking to some of our friends who are using this diet.. it is raw meat and veggies diet.

Well we are into Day 4 now of the diet and so far so good. I was reading the ingredients on a bag of dog food (Purina Puppy Chow) today.. I had saved the bag for recyling. Top Ingredient was Corn and amongst other things it said "Animal Digest". Hmm.. I wondered what the heck that was and did a online search..

Animal digest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ick! It could be diseased, disabled animals that have been processed along with rats and other gross animal parts that I surely would not want my puppy eating or my other dogs.

I noticed almost right away on this diet the dogs are not drinking near as much water as they used to.. they were drinking about a gallon of water every 24 hours (we have 4 dogs). Now they are down to about half a gallon.

I have added to their raw meat meal spinach, green beans, plain yogurt, carrots, cheese and will be adding in colard greens soon. It is all ground up in my food processor to form a pate' and I give about 2 tbs. to each dog per meal. I also saw in the dog food dried turnips so I may add that later too. My dogs totally gobble that food down in less than 3 minutes.

Oh and all the veggies are either fresh or frozen.. no canned veggies as they contain alot of sodium that isn't needed for humans or dogs. I also have but haven't tried yet Mackeral.. from what I studied Mackeral and Sardines are high in vitamins that they need (Vitamin D mainly). In the dog food I saw alot of vitamin supplements listed so they are trying but the meat they are using Ugh!!!
