I have been in the internet business for 7/8 years now, an avid user for much longer than that, and i'm recently divorced... and I disagree with the statement. The type of person who is going to use the internet to 'hook up' with someone in a chat room or use it to cheat is the same person who would 'hook up' with someone in a bar or on the job or wherever. It's all about the person, not their hobbies or work. As for the long hours... it's not fair to limit that to the internet and IT fields. Unfortunately, now a days, many professionals have to work long hours to stay ahead of the game: whether you're a lawyer, doctor, banker, or just a struggling parent who needs to get 2 jobs to make ends meet.
I think the divorce rate is high right now because people don't take marriage seriously anymore. They think the second it gets tough you can bail and that you shouldn't have to 'work' at it. I know a lot of young people who go into marriage thinking "oh well.. if it doesn't work, no big deal. I'll just get a divorce". It just doesn't mean what it used to. It's sad, really.
