"Ding-Dong" Cake

1 pkg. of your favorite chocolate cake mix
1 ctn. chocolate frosting

FILLING
1 cup milk
4 tbsp flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup softened margarine
1 cup sugar

Prepare and bake chocolate cake in two 8" or 9" pans. While the cake is baking mix flour and milk in a saucepan and cook till thickened, stirring constantly. Set aside and cool. Whip the shortening, margarine and sugar till fluffy. Add milk mixture. Beat till stiff peaks form. Cool cake and then split both layers of cake into two layers each. Spread filling over the top of each layer. Then use the icing to frost the entire cake after you have stacked the layers. Store in the refrigerator 1 day prior to use.

Do you think that these would turn out ok if I made cupcakes and filled them with this filling? Then I would top them with chocolate ganache or something along that line.

I might make these for hubby. I don't like chocolate but he loves those cupcakes with the filling inside. I was wondering if this would work for other types of cupcakes. Guess I'm gonna have to try it & see.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for other types of cupcakes. Twinkies have a white filling in them. I bet that it would be good in Red Velvet cupcakes, too.

I have been meaning to try these, too. Let us know if you try it!

I'm going to try these for DH. Thanks Amanda for the recipe. I've seen some of these from the store that the filling was put in from the side instead of from the top.
