6 cups of apple slices, cut chunky
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup apple juice or water.
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons butter
1/2 cup milk
Nutmeg sauce:
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
I added 2 small boxes of raisins to this recipe of this and didn't add the cinnmon or the nutmeg. You can fix it either way and it is great too.
Place apples, sugar, spices and apple juice or water in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low four hours, or until apples are tender.
For sauce, combine sugar and flour in a medium saucepan. Stir in water; bring to a boil, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in butter and nutmeg.
When apples are approaching tender, turn heat on high and prepare dumplings by sifting together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter; stir in milk. Drop from a tablespoon on top of the hot apples. Cover and continue to cook on high for 45 minutes without removing the lid. Serve with sauce.
Serves four.
