Hi there, I've been looking for a way to create a mirror. Ok, let me explain what I mean. I wanted to take an old window that I have (it's rather large) and make a mirror. I know that I can go to a glass shop and purchase a mirror to fit the window, but that would cost me a small fortune. I'm wondering if there is anything that I could use to paint the back of a piece of glass to create a mirror. If anyone out there know's what I'm talking about, then your one step ahead of my DH. LOL I would really appreciate your help. Thank you
As usual, Martha Stewart says it can be done. She showed one on her TV show, so if you go to her website it should be there. Or, you may want to check out a craft store also. The site is http://www.marthastewart.com
MNNorsk, Do you know which TV episode showed how to do this? I went to the web site but was unable to find the directions. Maybe I was looking in the wrong area ! Thanks for your help.
Gee, I don't recall, but they do have a 'contact' on the site, and maybe they have an 'archive' page for craft projects. Try a local craft store by phone and maybe you won't have to hunt.
I sort of remember how to do this. Sound familiar to anyone??
Glass
Silver metalic paint
black paint
If I remember right ( please double check)
take your glass paint the back of it silver
then paint the black over the silver on the back.
then when you turn it up right you have your mirror
There is another way with silver foil but I really can't remember the steps for that.

Using the silver foil method gives you more of a cloudy old mirror look. You can not get a true sharp image like you can in a 'real' mirror, but it is very lovely as an accent in a small size. My sister did one in a 10X14 and it's beautiful as a tray for a hanging candle.
