Is that a picture of your house? If it is than it looks like a model house. You know, the kind that you look in when you are looking for a house to buy. My house is clean,(most of the time), but never like that.

My house is what I'd call transitional eclectic... for lack of a better term...

I have a big over-stuffed couch, love-seat and ottomans that I use for a coffee table, trimmed out in oak and brass... colonial brass lamps, and carved oak side tables in the living room area. I also have fruit-wood Thomasville wall units, with dentil mouldings. I diisplay family treasures and colections from my grandparents and great-grandparents there... photos that go back to the 1800's... as well as my collection of treasure boxes and crystal. I have a mahoganny spinnet piano that was mine from when my mother was a little girl as well.

We also keep our computer in the main room as well as out TV. Our main living area is one large space. Living room, dining room and kitchen all connected in an open floor plan... it can be a real deccorating challange...

My dining area has a country-french cherrywood table and sheaf-back chairs. The cabinets are white wood with brass trim and the counter is a blue and white marble. The appliances are black glass with the exception of the refrigerator, which is white. to blend with the cabinets.

The bathrooom is white as well, with blue and white Italian marble tiles on the floor and a trim around the wall... I love that cobalt blue with the white!

My bedroom set belonged to my parents. They had it made in the 1940's. It's a blonde wood, sort of neo- classic/colonial..hard to describe. It's very heavy and beautifully yet simply carved..., (although my husband never did like it LOL!)

The walls are a golden peach color in the main part of the house. The floors throughout the house are in the process of being changed over to a natural cherry-look laminate.

My daughters' room has mauve walls...actually the shade is caled Azailia.<sp?> like the plant... very rich in color.

My bedroom walls are wallpapered...sort of a multi colored stripe.

All throughout the house are little knick knacks and treasures... I don't have a lot of room. We're four people in only 900 square feet of living space! LOLOL!!

We have a basement and attic, but they are only used for storage and laundry... We are in the process of converting the basement into some kind of usable space, but it gets water in the springtime...so it is a problem.

In the meantime, I love my little cottage. It's cozy and warm and absolutely comfortable....

Come and visit!

Val

House Model

Felicia, The reason I picked this model (Glencoe) Pringle Developer is because it had three bedrooms and a eat in kitchen. Also has a 2car garage. Think because you are retired you can do with a smaller house but you cannot. I am happy with this model because of the way the floor plan sits on my lot. Gives me extra land on both sides of the house since the garage is not attached on the side. Do miss not having a basement to store all my extra stuff.

I had to laugh....... I know what you mean about having no cellar/basement. I too am from the North ( MA. ) and the houses are completely different than Floridian houses. Luckily we have ample attic space here and my husband made a hole in one of the kids bedrooms above the closet so we have more attic space we can get too above their room now. When we converted our 2 car garage into a den (now its a bedroom) we made a huge walk in closet that I use to store stuff in. Guess you have to make do with what you have. I love having just one floor, I have to admit that and I love the tiled roof. The only thing I dont like is my kitchen is too small. And the living room/dining room/kitchen is all open. I seperated the rooms by tiling each room a different tile and by putting three bookcases up between my living room and dining room. I love the seperation of the rooms and the book cases have enabled me to display all my nick nacks. Thanks for sharing Sueanne.

I also LOVE country. I am almost 60 years old, and have had it all my life. Our kitchen is all in roosters, red, & navy. I have checked table cloths, place mats etc. One bath is in yellow & blue, and the other blue and white. Our living room is in different shades of blues with afghans, pillows, candles and books. Our bedroom is in navy and white. Again with candles, books and lots of pillows on the bed. I have Bows tied around everything, in the color of the rooms. (It adds a "homey" touch.) It is very simple and very economically decorated. We get alot of compliments from people that come into our home. I use lots of fabric, and ribbon to decorate. Cafe

Gosh, just reading some old posts this morning (Yes it's still morning in California! LOL............)

I still have the same decorating style as when I started this thread.
However, now that we have been in this house 5 years it's much more "cluttery." Sometimes I wish we would have bought a house maybe just a little bigger!

Anyone else in a small house? What are your secrets/ideas for storage and clutter control?

As well, anyone else want to share their decorating style?

hugs, train

I really don't have a small house but the floor plan is strange! I think the upstairs is around 1200 to 1500 sq feet then we have a basement. It is a okay feel for four people, with five we were crowded.

My decorating style is european with a twist, I think. lol
