waterproof picture frames?

Okay, all you crafty and intelligent women, I need help. I have some botanical prints that I would love to hang outside on my house by my deck. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could waterproof the back of the frames so the pictures wouldn't get ruined when it rains?

This may be too simple, but couldn't you just laminate the prints...wouldn't that make them waterproof?! Especially if they are in wooden frames that have polyurethane on them (to waterproof the frames) or plastic frames...it just seems like they would be well protected that way.

Wow! I hadn't thought of that! I guess I was maiking it way to complicated. I was trying to think of some way to seal the entire back of the frame. If I laminated the prints, I wouldn't even have to have any glass on the front of the print.

You might be able to find clear plastic box-style frames at AC Moore or other large craft stores. If they are large enough, you could put the prints, frames and all, inside the box and hang the box.
It would seem that would protect them.

Another great idea!! I have one of these in my son's bedroom with a tractor poster in it. I think I got it at Meijer. I may have to look around in my location; we don't have any big craft stores for abuot 50 miles.

I could seal the edges of the box with waterproof caulking, just to make sure.

I knew I could count on you ladies to help me brainstorm!!

Just a thought.

If the prints are special, why not scan them and print out a copy to use on the porch, keep the originals safe and then if the other ideas don't work you have only ruined a copy.
