Question Need Help Decorating a Game Room

This question comes from our fellow Family Corner
sister, NEAVON12.

We are turning our garage into a game room. I am desperate for input for a color scheme. My 14 yo DD wants the ceiling black!?Really I don't know where to start!

Thank You!!
Nancy

A black ceiling will really close in the room If you want it cosy, I guess that's the way to go though.

One thing that might be cool in a game room is to get some games at garage sales, like Monopoly or other favorite board games. It doesn't matter if ALL the pieces are there. Hot-glue some game pieces including cards, money, dice & tokens all around the board. Then use a picture hanger on the back to hang the boards on your walls. We did this in DD's room when she was little, and we had a spare set of Candyland that was missing some pieces.

The dark surroundings seem to be in with the young teens. I went to a church for awhile where they had a game room with the entire room painted a very dark blue, maybe even darker than navy. They had a lot of video games in the room. In less than a year's time they ended up painting it a lighter color though.

Game Room

I just painted my 9 years olds son's ceiling black and I Love it and so does he. Actually it was my husbands idea. I tried to talk THEM out of it and I'm glad I changed my mind. It makes the ceiling look endless. Two walls are a medium colored blue and one small wall by his closet is a deep purple. It sounds crazy , I Know, but everyone who sees his room likes it the best.

We just repainted all the rooms upstairs and I let my kids pick the colors. My seven year old boys ceiling is a deep purple with two blue walls and(iguana green is the color) two green walls, it looks like a rubix cube. (if any one remembers them)

I figure in a few years they will be tired of the colors anyway and we will have to paint again, so why not! Its only paint.
GOOD LUCK!

Theddgang--thanks! I think we will try painting the ceiling black, I checked out some other input on HGTV site, and it may hide some "spots" since this was a garage... we (actually dh) applied kilz to 2 walls today, but we still haven't chosen the colors...I also did a search for game rooms, but I ended up with mostly arcades!
I will keep yall posted!

What about covering the ceiling with some kind of fabric? It would be easy to take down if a year from now you all get tired of the color, and this way you don't have to worry about covering a dark paint.
They do it on Trading Spaces, or While You Were Out, all the time!

Elaine, I got rid of the extras for you
Just go to EDIT and then check the box at the top where it says DELETE POST.

We've been talking about blogs here:

They are kind of an online journal.

By now you have probably already decided on your colors but I wanted to tell you about a friend's daughter's color scheme in her bedroom: She painted all walls and ceiling a deep red and then took various sized circles, placed them randomly and painted in yellow and black. She has black-laquered furniture. When my friend first told me about it, I was shocked. But when you see it, it is very tasteful.
