New Year Resolution DeBt Reduction

Yes it is me again I have been away for awhile and just like a person who has fallen off the wagon with dieting ( which I should be on and have fallen multiple times). I have fallen from the debt reduction wagon. Time to get back on!!! I once was very focused on doing this then I started going back to school at night and my dh started picking up some of the chores (I LOVED THIS) and I got busier and SURPRISE I fell off the wagon. With a new year begining and the possibility of being laid off I thought it would be a good time to get back on the wagon. Anyone want to join me?? Be each others support person. I will give you a little History of me. I married and have 2 children and 2 stepchildren. I work full time and so doesn't dh. My dh likes to play the keep up with the Jones game and I usually give so I as you can assume we also have the Bills to reflect that. We have 3 vehicles and only 1 do we own out right. We have a mortgage and only 1Credit Card ( that I am proud of). 2 small loans which I want to pay off before summer. VERY little in the savings (that I am not proud of) and we have the threat of me not getting my 40 hours in a week. I bring in the most between us. SO tell me about you. Hope to have a support person real soon!!!

We also have 3 cars well we have my car which is paid in full his truck which we just got jan of 2002 and his motorcycle that we are finally getting down. We we first started dateing he owed 20,000.00 on that bike now its closer to 7K. I just paid off my loan last week which i am so happy for. I have a very small credit card to work off and a lot of small bills

getting it together

Oh, me too! I've fallen so far off the wagon I'm running to catch up lol!!

I'm married with two kids(5 and 2). I'm a sahm and dh works 40 hours a week with occasional overtime. His job is directly impacted by the auto biz--when they're slow, his shop is slow. His bosses are struggling to keep everyone working, and there has been several layoffs. We have three vehicles, one not running and two on their last legs, but we own them. Things got so bad that we declared bankruptcy in order to keep our home--we can't do anything else due to really bad credit! So we're kind of stuck, but that's okay. Dh is having his wages garnished for the house pmt. It's taking about half his check, but it's money he never sees so he can't spend it elsewhere(how we got into this to begin with, but that's a whole other story lol!). We have no cc's to pay just a small bank loan that will be paid shortly.

My biggest problem now is making what little we have cover everything else. I'm actually taking a break right now from trying to get a budget together that we can live with!! I'm especially working on cutting down on our utilities, though I'm not sure what else I can do in this area. Part of the budget is to set up some "accounts" for things like a newer furnace, insulation in the crawlspaces, etc. Also Christmas, savings, etc. I'm hoping to have $75 a week to split among the "accounts" to help defray the costs in the fall!! Wish me luck on this one--dh doesn't believe in saving for anything!

Apriliachick--isn't it amazing how quick you can get into debt, even when you don't have kids? I have to laugh, because when dh and met, we both worked full-time, had no kids, no pets, no house, nothing!! Just our cars(owned) and our apartment. And we still never had enough money! Now we have 2 kids, 2 dogs, a house with all the trappings, and we actually have more than we used to, and I don't work anymore! Go figure lol!

Hello everyone.Boy am I in need of debt reduction. We don't have tons of it.But what we do I want to get rid of.My husband wants to go back to school in the fall to become a teacher. His life long dream. And being out of debt will make him feel better about going back full time.He is a Vet so we are hoping he will get tuition and other stuff paid for.We sent in the application last week.We are going to move to a cheaper house after school is out so that will help out alot. And thanks to this site and all of you I have many money saving ideas. But the bills.I really want to get rid of.Two credit cards.one car loan finally paid the other car off and now have the title to it.And a new washer and dryer.I made the last washer and dryer last 12 years. But they both finally died.Within days of each other.those are the ones I really want to get rid of ny this fall. they seem like only a few but boy do they add up.

EMMJEAN--good luck to your hubby becoming a teacher. What's that saying?--"Teachers are ordinary people doing extraordinary work." It doesn't sound like you're too far off track. You have a goal, and I think making a washer and dryer last 12 years is great lol!! I know people that buy new every few years just so they can have the new gadgets that come along with them. My nod to "extras" was a feature that can sense when the clothes are dry--then it automatically turns off the heat, thus saving on gas.

You can do this--remember" Little by little does the trick."

Question

So....how is everyone doing on their debt reduction so far? The year has went very quickly so far and unfortunately my hopes for paying down bills hasn't worked as well. I have 2 credit cards, a vehicle loan, 2 small personal loans and a trailer payment, not to mention all the little stuff that goes along with raising kids. I guess I shouldn't complain since I have so much STUFF but I would love to pay these bills off! We will have to start saving for braces for our son--what a happy thought!

Well I stuck to the not make any more debt. And I did get some of the bills payed down. But none of them got paid off.To much happened. The van broke and was not fixable so we use the income tax return to buy a new one.so that was just paid for not on time. Then Momma had a heart attack. And had to have4 bypasses. And you would not believe how much her medication costs. She has madicare so the hospital is paid for but we have to pay for most of it .Oh and the best news of all my DH starts school part time this summer and then full time in the fall.Boy I needed that good news. But I am not giving up.I will get them paid off. I just have to keep trying.
