Tax Software (Anyone file there own taxes)

I was wondering if anyone out there files there own taxes? If you do what type of tax software do you use? I am thinking about filing my own this year and would like to know which tax software is the best.

Are you asking about personal income taxes or business taxes?

When I file since it is my personal taxes, but I am self employed. So I am doing both at the same time.

I use Turbo Tax. I file my taxes and other peoples taxes with it. I have been using this software for years. I never had problems with the software. Turbo tax has several versions. You have to read the box and buy the one that fits you and your needs. Remember you can write off the cost of the software or any fees to file your income tax returns.

For 2006 I didn't report something that I should of and dh and I owe money to the IRS. We just sent the money yesterday. I know when we filed that I didn't report it. I wasn't sure if I had to because of a new law that had took in effect that year. When I called the IRS office for help they really didn't help me. So we decided not to report it and we would see what happened. We received a letter on November 3rd of what we owed and why. We just got the money together and paid it.

For my state taxes. PA has a website that you can file your personal state tax for free. So I use that for my family.

Thanks for the info Charlotte. It seems like alot of people file with Turbo Tax. I think that is who I might go with.

We've done ours online the last several years. Well, my husband has. I think it's been Turbo Tax. He also does his parents who are retired. Just the other day he did theirs through Tax Act online and it was free. I'm not sure if that would fit your situation, but it may be worth checking into. I know with the Turbo Tax, there was a small filing fee. Is there a filing fee when you use the software or just the purchase price of the software?

We use Turbo Tax and the federal is free but there is a fee for filing the state tax, so it may depend on your state.

Although you may want to *shop* around to see if a store near you has the version(s) you need.
