Question ? Plaster of Paris Molds

I would like to make my own designs/molds for the clay and plaster of paris ornaments that we can paint.

Is there such a thing? Does anyone know of Canadian Sources for these items?

Hi, I can tell you how to make the molds, but it would take more words than I am allowed to type for an answer so if you would like to write me off list feel free, just put making molds in the subject line so I don't delete you

HI lillith,

I was thinking of starting out with platters and flower pots. I don't have any pictures right now. Maybe just give me the basics right now so I can be aware of what I need to buy before I start on a project.

Thank you

Are you planning on making your platters and flower pots out of clay, and then casting them in plaster??? Would they have decorations on them, such as flowers etc, that would stand out?? How large do you want them to be?? And what you would want would be molding plaster, not plaster of paris, different thing different way to work with it???
Let me know please,

Hmmm, I think I am confused by the many types of clay/plaster materials there are. Okay here is what I was thinking about.

Yes, the pots would have raised designs. I was thinking of something that you mix powder with water and pour it into your mold. You don't have to bake or oven kiln the project when it dries. You can paint it when dried and varnish or polyurethane when done to protect it.

Does this make sense to you?

A little late for this year but might come in handy for Christmas or another time. While I had the craft store people bought candy and soap molds to make magnets and ornaments out of. Every one said it worked great.

Hi Lillith,
Could you please share the recipe for making the mold itself with me?
I have this different shaped flower pot with light designs that all my friends have asked me to make for them one time or the other. If I have a mold for it, it will be so much easier for me to reproduce the pot!
I would like to use a hardy substance to make the pot as they might want to keep it out doors. Any ideas?
regards,
sunny_mom
