crochet

I am looking for some "portable small" projects to work on for the summer. I love to crochet, and work on afghans in the winter, but come summer they are to hot to deal with. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am a person who has to keep my hands busy crocheting, or sewing, while watching TV.
All ideas would be appreciated very much. Thank You. Cafe

I don't crochet but wish that I did. Anyway, how about making some ornaments, angels, coasters, treetop angel, doilies, placemats, or a table runner for gifts for friends and family? Would it be possible to make a pair of slippers or just some individual blocks to be put together when winter gets here? This lady that I used to know made a bedspread for her bed that was just beautiful. She also made a pretty tablecloth. Like I said, I don't crochet but have seen some pretty things made out of crochet thread.

Portable projects

Hi, I make alot of refrigerator magnets when we are camping. I also make granny squares with scrap yarns & put them in a bag. Then when cold weather comes, I start putting them together. I have a pattern for butterfly magnets that I make too. If you'd like the pattern, send me a pm & I'll send it to you. They are real easy to make...only 3 rows. You could try using crochet thread instead of yarn too. That seems to be cooler on the hands than yarn. Hope this helps.

I make edgings on handkerchieves and I give these as gifts to the doctor's office staff...or presents at Christmas. A beautiful crocheted edging is absolutely beautiful to bring with you in a purse.

Hand made ones in NY department stores are very expensive...fortunately I don't have to spend that kind of money for something delicate and beautiful. *s*

I know what you mean. I can't just sit and watch TV without something to do. I have been doing some miniature Amish type neelework quilts. They are kits found in most needlework catalogs. When finished, they are either hung by little clothes pins or on a small heart-shaped wire. They make great gifts to give to people and are perfect to do on hot days.

I like to crochet afghans during the winter too. During the warmer months I also like to do plastic canvas but my favorite is counted cross stitch!! You can do ornaments, pictures, pillows, etc.

For that matter, you could also crochet pillow covers for the couch, decoration on the bed, etc.

How about some winter scarves or hats? Teen girls always like those.

Go to the free pattern sites and see what ideas they also have. Probably some things we haven't even thought of!!

Potholders are a fun thing to make and don't take very long .I made some for Christmas gifts.
A fast one is ch 37 sts and then go all the way around down one side and up the other of the chain no other sts in the corners. and when it starts to get some length to it it will start to fold in on its self and when it meets stop and sew together.
I use cotton thread the big stuff like size of Worsted only cotton.

I have made several bag dolls. They hold the plastic bags from walmart. They only take a few hours to make. I used small dolls & bears. They are great to give or to keep. I have a "pattern" for the ones I made if you would like it please let me know.
You can see the ones I have made at http://www.angelfire.com/mo3/angelbearcrochet/
I hope it is ok to put this url on here. I am new to this group so not to sure of how to post.
