Question Spinning lamp?

my daughter has a lamp in her room that spins from the heat from the lightbulb, the shade is made out of some sort of paper and has translucent stars in the paper.. the problem is that she keeps getting it down and tearing the shade, i would like to make her a new one rather than going out and buying another lamp. to my knowledge they don't sell replacement shades.
does anyone know how to make the shades that goes around the lightbulb?

lamp shade

Hello, I have one of those lamps too. They're lovely. I would suggest taking the lamp and/or shade to your local print shop where someone who is familiar with paper types can advise you on where to purchase similar material.

You'll probably have to take the original shade apart to make a pattern with it, but again, ask what kind of glue or tape (or staples) you can use that won't come apart or be dangerous in the heat.

Good luck.

I replaced mine with rice paper--but the shade isn't too close to the bulb. I agree with Lisa--take it to a repair shop and get their opinion--you don't have to have it repaired if you can do it yourself cheaper

We have a couple of these that are shaped like stars. They are also made out of rice paper. You could make it, but what You may want to do first is lower the wattage on your lamp so that it isn't spinning like that. VERY DANGEROUS> You could also make a lightbulb protector out of a metal hanger so that it insures that the lamp does not touch it.

I would suggest using vellum (found at most larger craft and stationary stores) instead of rice paper for a lamp shade. It's a more durable product and I feel it's a bit safer near light bulbs. It's inexpensive and easy to work with. Use your old shade as a pattern and use a good adhesive (school glue will get hard and crack - low temp glue gun stuff will melt if the light is on a long time.
